another pretend veterinarian

tenaha, texas
87 dogs and 6 cats were rescued from the squalor provided by 78 yr old MARY E CRANE. sheriff deputies and cruelty investigators dressed in hazmat gear served a search warrant on this crazy lady.

“My dogs are my family, so I take care of them like they're my children.”

video shows absolutely appalling conditions. dogs infested with fleas and internal parasites, missing eyes, open wounds, living in their own waste. you can actually see the fleas on the dogs in the video.

Hoarding is on the rise and you can thank Nathan Winograd and his "No Kill Equation". He is currently pushing Oreo's Bill, fashioned after the Hayden Act in CA. The Hayden doesn't require that you be a 501c3 to qualify as a "rescue". You only have to present yourself as a rescue. According to the Hayden, animal control MUST give the animals to rescues if they request them. This includes dangerous, aggressive dogs and feral cats. The spirit of the Hayden never intended to put dangerous animals out to the rescues but they have distorted the law and the author of the law is supporting it. Thus hoarders in CA abound as in the cases of Cindy Bemis, Kim Peck, and Charlotte Spadaro. You'll be seeing more of this if this bill passes in NY. I hate these kind of people, but they are the very ones to follow the Whino's program because his program doesn't see suffering and neither do these hoarders.

I wonder if she has actually gave birth and raised children because seems pretty clueless about what's involved.
Let's hope her judge is as reasonable as the Tennessee judge.

"Yes I can agree with you on one thing - There are some really stupid and pathetic PB owners out there. But what can be done about it w/out affecting me and my dog?"

this really is the crux of the problem. all pit nutters seem to be concerned is protecting their "right" to own this dog and the hell with everyone else. i have an alternative to outright breed bans but it is still BSL and pit nutters will object.

1) ABSOLUTELY NO FIGHTING BREEDS OR THEIR MIXES IN DOG PARKS!
2) ban felons from owning dogs
3) license people instead of dogs and set containment standards that must be met prior to getting the dog.
4) mandatory microchipping of ALL dogs
5) mandatory insurance coverage on ALL dogs of all breeds. let the insurance industry calculate the risk and hammer out the premiums. for example $5/yr for a beagle and $1000/yr per pit bull
6) strict limits on breeding and the number of animals that you can own
7) mandatory spay neuter of pit bulls to help bring their population closer to rare breed status.
8) felony animal cruelty charges if your dog (any breed) seriously injures or kills another animal. that would result in the destruction of that dog and a lifetime ban on owning dogs.
9) prohibit all large breed dogs from apartments/condos
10) deny fighting breeds/flock guardians service dog status
11) replace the one free bite with one bite and your'e dead-NOT breed specific
12) mandatory depraved indifference charges if your dog seriously harms or kills a human.

Yes CD, I will fight for my rights, when my dog is a well behaved, non-aggressive, innocent canine citizen.
The problem is, is that a Pit Bull owner like me is far and few between, or you could even say rare.

If you classify me as a Pit nutter, then you might be surprised to know that I actually agree with everything you said.
I am not against bsl unless it is an all out ban, I am in favor of placing restrictions on these owners because there are TOO MANY idiots out there with Pit Bulls that do not understand the power their dog has.

I have homeowners insurance (it was hard to obtain to say the least, but I got it)

My Pit Bull is microchipped

I have a 6 ft privacy fence that is locked at all times which does not make a difference because my dogs NEVER go outside unnattended.

Star is spayed

Never EVER take my dog to dog parks

I only own 1 so there should be no problem

I live in a house, that I own

Star is not a service dog, only cgc certified

Star has never bitten anyone or anything, and if she did I would have her put down myself

We can finally agree on something.
I am all for it, and actually pushing for similiar requirements in a neighboring city. It will go before the board in a few weeks. We'll see.

well, julie it does sound as though you do NOT fit the definition of a pit nutter but you have to excuse my skepticism. i am reluctant to believe anything you say simply because i have caught you spinning tails on the internet in the past.

Well thankyou.
You may know that in my area we have the Pit Bull group where we get together and walk the dogs... There are hundreds of Pit Bull owners that are a part of it, and I have tried my best to persuade them that this is what we need to be pushing for, and they want no part of it.
I am almost tempted to sit down with the mayor and introduce him to dogsbite.org and your other options to full blown bans.
Yes, my eyes have definitely been opened since the last time we talked... Alot has changed

Hold on, let me save you some time and trouble.
I am a white female that lives in HL MS., no criminal record, only 1 ticket and it was for an outdated inspection sticker, I have 1 rescued Pit Bull, 1 Chihuahua, the only encounter I've had with animal control was when they came to my house to talk to me about my neighbors 2 Huskies that attacked my Pit Bull in MY backyard, I drive a schoolbus and have my own consultant business, I volunteer at 4 local animal shelters, I am married, never been divorced, have children, nobody has ever called animal control or the police to my house, never done drugs, graduated high school, then went on to college, I AM NOT an animal rescuer, hmmm I think I covered all the basis, if you need to know anything else, you are just shit out of luck.

Craven desires,
I used to hate your blog, now it does not bother me at all.
I have come to the realization that I can only control my dog, not anyone elses. I do not worry about all of the other stuff anymore. I just focus on me and my happy little family, the rest does not matter.
Yes I can agree with you on one thing - There are some really stupid and pathetic PB owners out there. But what can be done about it w/out affecting me and my dog?
