the egg and sperm donors plead guilty

ROBBIE LYNN JENKINS, 20, and TREMAYNE JEREL SPILLMAN, 23, plead guilty to felonious negligent child abuse involving serious physical injury and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor. jenkins received 8-11 months, spillman received 10-13 months and an additional 5 months for an unrelated larceny charge from 2006. the sperm and the egg donors also must complete parenting classes while in prison.

on the night in question, both jenkins and spillman took seroquel, a sleep medication prescribed to jenkins. the drug is also used to treat bipolar, major depression and schizophrenia.

The child had dozens of bloody scratches on his legs, the smaller toes were completely missing and the big toe had been gnawed to the bone, according to a crime scene photo taken by responding authorities and shown to The Daily News by Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown.

Serious scratches on the child’s legs indicated the mastication took place over a long period of time, investigators said.

The child will never be able to run, will not be able to play most sports, suffers from night terrors and phantom pains, has extensive scars on both legs and has to take pain medication every day, the child’s guardian told the court.
