Meanwhile every six months the Nutters recycle a story about trailer dwellers without smoke detectors being saved by their pittes who barked during a fire...
GREAT MOMENTS IN PIT BULL HISTORY:
1913: Larry the Bull Terrier mascot of the Cleveland Baseball club goes beserk and attacks a child at the ball park. Players from the team rescue the boy and Larry is banned from the Ball Park.

**Disclaimer...You can't make this up!!
It would be interesting to see how many Carnegie or other awards were given for thwarting non-pit bull attacks. I'm thinking not many. I'm sure that would blamed on the obvious anti-pit bull bias of Andrew Carnegie's various groups!
Funny that DBOs new blog is about, "hero's"
She should add this "hero" to her list:

Fuzzy,
Any dog will bark if the house is on fire... see Vintage's comment above.
April at least we hope they will bark. One has to ask in these cases, did they not have a smoke alarm, and if not, why? The dog was barking at the smoke alarm probably.
Was FUzupf being ironic with that post? It was a pit bull in a trailer (it seems like one from the video and it's address is ~~~ park road which is an indicator). That's exactly what vintage said pit bull folks help up as a hero: a pit bull that alerts its owner that the trailer is on fire because they have no smoke detectors. I'm betting pit bulls are more likely than other breeds to be in the right place to exercise this specific flavor of heroism.
"hold up", not "help up" as written
The Nutters create and recycle these stories about every six months. There are three main memes...
1. Trailer dwellers without smoke alarms are awakened by their barking pitties.
2. Pittie protects children from attacking venemous snake, then dies immediately and photo is snapped with snake still in the dogs jaws.
3. Female Nutter protected by stray pittie, who intervenes in sexual attack with no perp ever being caught.

Here's a heartwarming story about a pit bull hero.
Re-reading the tale of Doty and others reminded me of Osh Gosh.

Osh Gosh might be my favorite dog, among those I haven't yet met.
GREAT PIT BULL MOMENTS IN HISTORY:
July 1907: President Theodore Roosevelt's famous Pit Bull "Pete" is banished from the whitehouse after savage attacks on diplomats, policemen and lineman.

DubV - Agreed, Osh Gosh was great, a real hero. But for the sweetest dog award, it's hard to top Gracie
Osh Gosh was a real hero. And an incredible dog who brings tears to my eyes every time I read about him.
And I've seen Gracie before, Jake, the most lovely, sweet, loving, devoted gal ever. Notice in all her excitement she never body slams nor does she "lick to death" her beloved soldier. She is beside herself, but she contains herself and never tries to bowl her beloved over. That's what a dog's devotion and companionship is all about.
I love Doty, and all the other heros. The human heros aren't as cute, but, man, when faced with a pit bull attacking someone, I just hope I could be as brave.
It is a crying shame that so many people have had to become heros because we, as a country, haven't come to grips with the fact that there is no reason we have to kowtow to the whims of idiots who have a fetish for dangerous dogs.
Too funny.
"I too, was the unfortunate victim of a bite from a small dog...a dachshund to be exact. Those of us who have been attacked by small dogs suffer the humiliation of friends' laughter when we explain the pain and terror of being bitten by minpins, bichons, Chihuahuas, minipoos, pugs, etc. We have learned to keep quiet about our attacks and suffer in silence as others who have been bitten by large dogs get all the attention and sympathy. The small dog bite is under reported. Victims are ashamed to go to authorities. We will not be silenced. It is time to come out of the shadows my brothers and sisters. Demand your rights. We are victims too! If you bite us, do we not bleed? Until the stigma of the small dog bite is erased from our socoety, large dogs will continue to lead the "which breed bites most". BAN THE ANKLEBITERS!!!"

"Because Pit Bulls are 9 times out of 10 the breed we read about! They dismember, mame and kill constantly. I can't believe you asked that question. Do you read the paper much or get out often? Pit Bulls are nasty, viscous dogs. Should NOT be pets. You can put them on the front of calendars, on t.v. shows and dip them in gold. No one with any commen sense would own one. A THUGS DOG."
DIPPED IN GOLD!!!!!
Yeah, dipped in gold was the part that had me laughing.
