"an American bulldog sometimes known as a Pit bulldog." Yeah, to dumbasses that don't know the difference.

The American Bulldog is a useful breed of noble origins. They are NOT Pit Bulls by any means. Bulldogs were bred for controlling livestock, Pit Bulls were bred for fighting other dogs. Know. the freaking. difference.

I'm sorry, but that whole post is a big, dumb, generalization. So what if some breeders mix APBT into their Bulldogs? That doesn't mean all AB breeders do. The original John D. Johnson kennels, which is still in business, breeds PURE Johnson Bulldogs, as do many reputable kennels across America.

What separates American Pit Bull Terriers from older bulldogs is that there is no terrier in pure bulldog blood, and bulldogs were bred to control livestock and guard property. APBT's were bred mostly just to fight other dogs. Alot of Pit Bull owners like to say Pits were bred to be farm dogs, but no, that's what Bulldogs were bred for.

I don't see why American Bulldogs should be thrown in with another breed that came after them just because some people mix them together. I get what you mean by grouping them together as "gripping dogs" but still, there's a world of difference between a terrier/bulldog cross built to kill other dogs for sport, and a dog bred to do an actual job on a working farm.

You seem to just hate any breed of dog that isn't some cuddly wuddly little house pet. Humans didn't domesticate dogs because they wanted some furry friends to play with. They domesticated them because they could do a job, and in exchange for that job they earned friendship. This is why I have more respect dogs than say, cats, because while I love cats, they don't do a whole lot of useful work. Bulldogs were bred to work. I hope you don't have a problem with that.

All I'm saying is, don't drag American Bulldogs into your little Nazi hate campaign. Most American Bulldog breeders and owners are good people. They're not the low-life scum that have Pit Bulls for all the wrong reasons. While the people who cross Pit Bull blood into their American Bulldogs are mongrel-breeding idiots, I still don't think that gives you grounds to lump them together.

Are American Bulldogs dangerous? Yeah, you could say they are. ALOT of breeds are. I guess I'm just too much of a purist to use the whole "pit bull" blanket term. To me, there are American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, etc etc, and there are mixed breeds. An APBT/Lab mix isn't a pit bull, it's an APBT mix. There's too much in a breed name to use general such terms.

**a note on my "Pit Bull" usage, if I say "Pit Bull" (capitalized) I'm saying it simply as an abbreviation for American Pit Bull Terrier, not using it as a blanket term

There was no American "Pit" Bulldog until the NKC was founded in 1964. Later in the 1980's, the NKC would change the name to American Bulldog after the Pit Bull DBRFs started accelerating. Very clever.

This animal was a Pit in the great dogfighting state of South Carolina.

The dogfighters have always played the name game to stay ahead of the law. "Pit Shuckin and jivin'"...

It's troubling how little these Useful Idiot Nutters recruited to clean up the humane mess caused by the breeders and dogfighters actually know about these animals...
