Opposing Views: No Kill: Hayden Law, Overcrowding California Animal Shelters Part 1

(Part 1) This is the first in a series on the "No Kill" movement in animal sheltering. This examines the impact of the Hayden Bill (1998) and provides a graphic video filmed in California animal shelters one year after the law went into effect. The extended holding periods for shelter animals mandated by the Hayden Bill were, mercifully, suspended in 2009 by the California Legislature.

No kill is doomed to fail but in my opinion, it can not fail soon enough.

This video was edited heavily. The worse was edited out believe it or not. There are two more parts to come. Please make comments.

A co-worker of a family member had a 6 year old relative mauled by a pit bull in my hometown yesterday. Punctured skull, hours of surgery by 3 doctors working on her, not a mention in the paper.

That hits close to home - again. This shouldn't be happening at all and happens far more often than reported.

Keep ups posted.

That video was just horrific. What the crap is wrong with people to not be able to see IT'S NOT WORKING?!!

As I understand, it was edited heavily but another version is to the left of the video link from the article and it is worse. Did you see the chow with the chihuahua? And shelters in CA are still having to put more than one dog per kennel.

Meanwhile, California breedera aren't registered with business licenses, nor are they collecting and paying sales taxes that are MANDATED BY LAW.

It's almost as if Animal Control and the rescues NEED this situation to continue.

The two San Diego Pit dealers who killed Mrs Mendoza are not being charged by the state for not being registered or paying taxes.

PREVENT THE DEED, SNIP THE SEED

its bad enough that human killers get to stay alive in prison maybe to get out someday on parole or some technicality while their victims families are left to suffer. for this policy to extent to dogs that have proven their propensities to attack and injure or kill other animals or even people is disgusting and leads me to believe our society is rapidly going down the toliet
