Although I have long known about soring, it was not till I saw an undercover video did I understand the agony those horses undergo, and all to produce a travesty of movement.
Another thing I detest, is
Western Pleasure, where style demands a low, lolling head (peanut rollers, the disparagers call it, Ha!) and slooooooow pace. Added to this picture is a big fake tail for the horse, reaching to the ground... why not, it isn't like you're going to get your hair messy
That being said, I think an American Saddlebred perfectly trained, is the most glorious creature ever. Many years ago, at
the Southern California Expo (an enormous state fair) we were between classes at a Saddlebred show; I didn't see how it happened, but suddenly a loose horse, fully tacked, was inside the empty arena-- and immediately began to rack! She went right along the wall, in perfect form, ears pricked, eyes flashing, great speed, precision, animation..Wow.
When she began her second circuit the crowd started clapping in unison. It was fun! As she neared the entry gate she faltered, dropped to a walk, and was greeted by her rider, also laughing. So she left our cheers behind, but I'll never forget that glorious, joyful sight. Love them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4325894281523642428.post-11112164106036845402013-10-13T00:11:21.562-07:002013-10-13T00:11:21.562-07:00The riding camp I worked for had a carriage stand ...The riding camp I worked for had a carriage stand in the nearby tourist town--we had a mare and a gelding, their workday lasted 5 hours in mild Wisconsin weather. One would get off work, be trailered home, and the replacement brought in. They always entered the trailer happily, coming or going.
Their bridles weren't blinkered, they wore no
checkreins, their bits were mild, jointed curbs.I say all this because there were no incidents or threats to public safety in years of long summers and throngs of tourists. Well, not true, the mare, Bumtrinket (Trinky) once reached over while waiting at the carriage stand, and relieved a little kid of her ice cream cone, giving everyone a good laugh. Everyone loved them, and the horses seemed to enjoy the work. It makes me sad and angry that it's become blighted.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4325894281523642428.post-58482692462020876402013-10-11T08:23:20.182-07:002013-10-11T08:23:20.182-07:00Ah, CandorMD. The first two by the product they're producing, the last by defending the dogs being produced by the first two. True lovers of the breed recognize that it's better for the breed to not to save all of them. MOST of the pit bulls in shelters should be put down because they are not stable dogs. MOST of the dogs being bred, be they pure breds with the AKC, UKC or ADBA, should NOT be bred, and NONE of the unregistered dogs should be bred.
I wish there was a requirement that dogs, especially pits have to pass temperament tests in order to be bred, but that would just increase the ATT CGC fraud. But if people are going to breed, then they need to breed right. because too many are breeding these dogs wrong increasing the bad rep these dogs have, and at the same time needlessly causing innocent people, adults, children and babies to be mauled, scarred for life, and even killed.
I love pits. There is something about them that is different, it's unique, it's special. But reading what I have read on the net, seeing what I have seen on the news... I understand why so many hate my dogs. I understand why so many fear my dogs, and I understand why so many want to ban my dogs. I am no apologist, I really don't blame them. The worse part of it is it's the pit bull lovers that are ruining it for other pit bull lovers, by producing what you call frankenmaulers.

Even though we are on opposite sides, of the dog debate, I think we have a meeting of minds more than we don't. It could be wishful thinking. I want to say my brief time here was well spent, and I have enjoyed the random articles I did read to try to understand more of your position. Perhaps if more pit bull people took the time to see past the hate, they can see what I have seen, the fear, anger and frustration, not directed so much at US, but at the pit nutters that think that every pit bull is perfect, it's not the dog, it's the owner, and that their dog is just like a labrador...
I don't THINK I have been defensive. I know that the dogs in the stories on this blog are NOT my dogs, and they could never BE my dogs. Bones would soon be actually bones, Piney would be taking the long walk down the green mile, and Isaboo would be saying boo (if dog ghosts said boo) were they my dogs. But people see my dogs, and they think I'm one of the problem owners, and assume my dogs are one of the problem dogs. And we catch flack for being guilty by association.
I have enjoyed reading what I have read, and I shall return another time. Right now, I'm a little depressed and sad for my breed, because the breed stewards are failing at their job. So I am going to head back to Cracked and read some funny stuff for a whileAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4325894281523642428.post-90218699369695036022013-04-07T22:03:04.879-07:002013-04-07T22:03:04.879-07:00LOL!
