Content of character?

bumped for MLK

I came across a picture of a poor poor pit bull with a contradictory statement. We all know that the pit bull party contradicts themselves. I'll admit that some of them probably don't know they are, but I really hope they realize this fallacy.

"I have a dream that one day I will not be judged by my appearance, but by the content of my character."

This statement contains multiple errors:

1. Pit bulls' appearance isn't really what makes them dangerous. Sure, their visible strength plays a major part in the danger, but the appearance of their face has not killed anybody as far as I know. (However, looking at a pit bull can trigger an attack.)
2. It's the "content of character" - their behavior - that makes these dogs so dangerous. Pit bulls have so much character that they maul the children they're playing with!

Long story short, the "content of character" already is what these wiggle butts are judged by. I'd like to thank the original creator of this picture for furthering the pro-BSL efforts. It's this kind of contradiction that will soon become the downfall of the pro-pit propaganda.

[Are your neighbors trashy? Pit bull owners usually are. You won't be able to get them to take care of their dog responsibly - call the police, involve animal control - but don't waste your time trying to get them to be responsible for their dog.

Pit bull owners have a sense of entitlement because they're delusional about the breed. They don't care about others' safety or pet safety because "Mah dog! You're saying bad things about mah dog! He's different! He's not like the ones that attack kids! He's mah dog!"]

  3. You make an excellent point Dignitas, perhaps a bit too subtly for the average pit bull user - but clearly, it is not the appearance, but the "character" that drives a pit bull to attack and kill other dogs, is it not?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Not to mention the fact that the featured image clearly wants us to judge based on superficial appearances. "look at the docile dog laying there, how could you even suspect it would attack?"

    ReplyDelete
  5. oooohhhh, great point jake^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Great post, dignitas. This take anthropomorphism to a disgusting extreme.

They want us to believe that pit bulls care, feel sorrow, shamed and humiliated because people dare judge them for their BEHAVIOR.

That pit bulls have heroism, aspirations and vision of a civil rights leader who was martyred, and indicated in the same speech, that he knew he might be martyred.

or that dog behavior indicates CHARACTER. yuck.

  6. pitter people often , usually equate guts , courage and gameness with charachter. when this charachter results in a mauling then then pitters start in with the denials.

"my brindled beauty is so , so sweet
and wouldnt hurt a fly but he would defend me to the end" .

    ReplyDelete
  7. Pit bull owners often get these dogs for emotional reasons. Not surprising that they have a weird emotional relationship with their dogs where they project their feelings onto the dog and then try to take on some of what they think the dog feels. Weirdos.

I hope my niece's future dog never kills me.

    That niece said,

“It’s such a tragedy because uncle Allan is someone we grew up with. This is a real definition of tragedy.”

That's a weird take on it. It's a tragedy because someone lost his life, and the death was preventable by making smart dog breed choices.

"The distraught owner of the dog, Erthney Abrahams, 46, said it had never attacked anyone before.'

    Can you say "unpredictable"?

  12. Anyone else have a gander at this one? I found it on the FFYR's website--you know, the individual who never met an apostrophe they didn't like.

I've started to feel a bit tacky picking on a person like FFYR--I have to wonder if I'm demeaning someone helpless, like a child--but when someone like FFYR posts (without irony) propaganda like this image, I say: Fuck em.

I can't cut-and-paste the image here, to see it, to go http://fight4yourights.blogspot.com/ and scroll down towards the bottom of the first post. You will see an image of a pit bull wearing an American Indian (probably Horse Culture but I'm not sure) headdress (which, I think, also has religious significance to the people)and the words "Pit bulls are not the first to face genocide in America!"

UNBELIEVABLE. Read 'Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee,' you fuck.

    1. I think in this case it would be "Bury My Heart At Amputated Leg ". I think part of the problem is that pitiots have been told to be "half as game" as their dogs to insure the survival of the breed. Something only a psychopath or fool would want yes, but I think much of the pitnutter stupidity is international.

Yup, it sure proves pits walk around, shaking their dump truck shaped heads because some of their buddies are "bad apples" making them all look bad! Yup, this one photo proves all of that, thanks nutters!!! You guys is just so smart!!!

  16. Not only that, Anne King, the twit puts several "find the pit bull" things up in which all breeds but apbts are considered "not pit bulls" then in the "pit bulls were cute family dogs" picture section, she includes dogs that look as if they very easily could be papered Boston terriers, boxers, terrier mixes, mutts and there is an unidentifiable puppy.

I read "Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee" and "Because of Romek" and slaves' accounts of slavery and to associate pit bulls with any humans in any way shape or form is beneath contempt.

All dogs today have more legal protections from cruel and abusive treatment than those human beings did during their respective times of exploitation, enslavement, persecution, abuse, degradation, torture and genocide.

So I agree with MM and say FUCK YOU to anyone who can't tell the difference between their fucking frankenmauler and a human being.

When you judge all dogs on what some dog's do it's wrong period. Like I,ve said before Im all for regulating who can own them & punishing the guilty but what I dont agree on is laws that take well behaved dogs away from responsible owners. And @ Dub V that video shows a guy with his dog on a leash and a unregistered unleashed dog who i would guess came after him. I doubt he chased the stray down with his leashed dog in the middle of the street but you dont mention that so I guess if your a pitbull you should just let unleashed dogs attack you.
I dont condone any type of animal abuse and never have.

  20. the entire concept of breeding dogs is an exercise in eugenics, breeding dogs is done for the sole purpose of judging them, LITERALLY! you can't grasp that fact, why?

we agree at least that it is wrong to seize well behaved dogs from responsible owners. however a loose pit bull should be a dead pit bull and its owner should join the felon club.

Believe it or not we agree on two things with the amount of dogs in shelters there is no reason any dogs should be breeding right now. Both of my dogs are fixed & both are well behaved and have their own big fenced in yard to romp around in. Thanks for being in agreement about responsibly owned dogs.

  22. People do judge these dogs by their appearance, no one has been killed by that, but people get scared easily by the way these dogs look. I'm not saying all pitbulls have a nice character, we all know that all dogs have different temperaments and different personalities as well. But, it takes a lot of work to make these dogs have a bad temperament. Its not their fault, they don't have a voice to express themselves, its the person at the end of the leash that makes the difference. Any dog can bite, that's why you have to trained them not to do it, pitbulls are like any other dog, I've seen more aggressive chihuahuas than pitbulls. A well trained pitbull will be loyal to you until the end, how do I know? because i own one. I'm sick of all these people posting negative things about this breed, this breed have an amazing character, they're more compassionate than more humans, they're courage, playful, loving dogs, they're full of energy, own one and raised him/her properly and you'll see what i'm talking about.

  23. It's not contradictory in the least bit you fool. The appearance referred to is the infamous negative stereotype associating with the pit bull breed, as in if he appears to be a pitbull, he must be vicious. Secondly, the content of character is individual to each dog. Pit bulls were originally bred to be nanny's and 99% of pits love children and would DIE to protect them. This picture does not promote BSL. Get your head out of your negative ass and go kiss a pittie right on his nose. It will change your life.

    PIT BULL.

    Pit fighting.

    Bull baiting.

They were bred for aggression, tenacity, and strong grips. They are "game bred" meaning they will die in the grip.

And only a complete MORON would suggest walking up to a strange dog of ANY breed and kissing it on the nose. Great way to get bit. In the case of a pit bull it is a great way to get your face torn off.

Newsflash- there are plenty of people who do not want pound dogs. They actually want to get a well bred dog, from breeder with known health,temperament/genetics.
Great dogs still need to be bred, no matter what you might think.

I see the "adopt don't shop" people in the same light as the "blame the breed not the deed". Folks repeating cutsie phrases often enough that they believe it themselves.

  27. I don't believe for one second that FFYR's pit bulls are either well behaved or adequately contained. Just another pit freak delusion, that self-aggrandizing fantasizing that pathological narcissists always do.

I heard no mention of a kennel made of iron bars no more than 4" apart, a concrete floor into which those bars are sunk to prevent dig-escapes, a roof into which the iron bars are also securely sunk to prevent climb-escapes, and a door that can only be opened with a key so that a child can't inadvertently enter the pit bull kennel.

Fencing is not adequate containment, I'm ROTFL. Seems FFYR is not the 'responsible' pit nutter she imagines herself to be. Like I said, delusional, just like all the pit freaks are. And I'd guess that on this point, Craven isn't as much in agreement with Ms. Delusions as Ms. Delusions deludes herself.

  37. A pit bull already changed my life and I did not even have to kiss it on the nose for that to happen. Just existing, and engaged in a peaceful and lawful activity in a public park was all it took.

Note to Laura, nobody gets up in the morning and just decides "I'm going to take up hating pit bulls today." We are not even "haters" we are just people that lived through a life changing attack and feel that no one else should suffer a similar fate. Pit bulls were bred for an activity so violent that it is a felony in all 50 states. The criteria for inclusion into the breed gene pool was the desire and ability to attack unprovoked and to continue that behavior until death occurs. It is not the pit bulls fault, they are dogs and have no moral sense. It is not the appearance that is the problem, it is the DNA.

    "Nanny dog"??? Oh please...

  43. i think the nanny dog myth was created by slimy people looking for a justification for pitbull aggression. if you can claim this aggression is only for the purpose of protecting children then this makes it seem ok and even noble and good . i think a lot of breeds are protective of their family and friends , ive seen it myself with german shepards, but as for protective of kids in general , i kinda doubt . like i said, dogs are territorial and possesive of their own , in general, but this is different than being a nanny dog . i might want a guard dog for protection , but only a dummy wants an attack dog and thats basically what pitbulls were and still are in a lot of cases . i dont think the numbers lie .

  44. "Fencing is not adequate containment, I'm ROTFL. "

yep a few months after FFYR posted that comment, i discovered that his mutant escaped and went on a joy ride.

i imagine adequate containment looks something like the following:
electrified 8 ft fence coated with a fast acting poison, with an additional 2 ft sunk under ground and razor wire on the top. this would be surrounded by a moat stocked with piranhas. of course pittie would have to spend a couple hours a day on a treadmill to tire her out and keep her from finding a way out to maul the yorkie next door.

    ReplyDelete
  45. snarky, i am at loss as to why pit nutters insist on bragging rights for owning dogs that are BRED for deadly hair trigger aggression. seriously, if you want to be impressed by a dog's protectiveness and willingness to put themselves in danger for their owner, save it for little dogs who lack the physical ability to carry out the threat. save your awe for the timid dogs, like my border collie/pointer mix, who even though he is frightened, he will quickly position himself between me and a stranger. now that's something to write home about.

    Discriminating? Yes. Discriminatory? No.

    By FELICIA R. LEE
    Published: December 13, 2003

It started with a pit bull.

Frederick Schauer, who teaches a course on the first amendment at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, was reading about some dog lovers who claimed ''canine racism'' in response to measures to curb attacks by pit bulls in New York City.

That particular race card, he said, was an extreme example of how society has become so obsessed with avoiding any stereotypes that it ignores reality. Pit bulls are more aggressive than other breeds, he said, just as statistics show older people have slower reflexes than the young, and there are more bad drivers in Massachusetts than in Vermont. A fair number of generalizations, he insists, turn out to be accurate.

Most pitty-peops suffer either Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Histrionic Personality Disorder, are psychopaths, or have a combination of the traits of all three. Typical of all three of these personality disorders is weak or absent reality check.

So it's no surprise how they can flop from one fantasy into another (contradictory) fantasy -- about the undogs, about themselves, about what we-all will think after being 'educated'.
