In memory of Joan Kappen

Brande and Emily Coy, Nutterines and worshippers of the Pit Bull Mastiff Mix named 'Patrone' that slaughtered Joan Kappen in 2013.

Allowing Patrone to roam and begin a devastating attack on innocent Joan, when Brande became aware of the horrible situation, as Joan lay scalped, naked, covered in blood and with over a HUNDRED maul injuries to her body, Brande grabbed that Mauler, secured it at home, and then proceeded to change her clothes, wash her hands of Joan's blood, re-do her hair. Then, approximately 30 MINUTES later, she phoned 911, waited for medics to arrive and deal with Joan. She did not sit with the dying woman, hold her hand, whisper words of comfort. SHE ATTENDED TO HER VANITY and SHE CLEANED THE DOG OF EVIDENCE.

Her daughter, Emily, had already suffered in the jaws of Patrone. She had been attacked earlier, and had gone to work with a large bandage on her arm. She told a work-mate that Patrone had attacked her, but shortly thereafter she changed her story. Protectionism of dear Patrone mattered more.

Joan's husband could only recognise his wife from her shoes and her spectacles. "There was not a drop of blood left in her", he said.

During the trial, the jury deliberated and reached a verdict. Both were found guilty. Brande Coy was found guilty of "misdemeanor" negligent homicide. She received 60 days in jail and one year probation.

Her daughter Emily Coy, Patrone's OWNER, who most thought would walk free, received a slightly stiffer sentence of 120 days in jail and one year probation. Both Coys will also have to pay $2,500 in fines.

Joan's husband, Hans, said that he was happy that they both got 'guilty' charges. He spoke of how they BOTH knew that Patrone was vicious. He spoke of his wife lovingly, saying "not only did I lose my wife, but my best friend. And also, Arkansas lost a woman that devoted her life to helping others."

How UNLIKE the Coys could the Kappens be? Good people, decent people, gentle people, yet fate brought them into the deviant and defiant world of the Coys and the dog they both worshipped, Patrone, litter-mate of the dog that killed little Ayden Evans in June of that same year.

Light sentences perhaps, but what a fall from grace. All the hand-washing in the world, perhaps until Hell freezes over, will not restore those women to a state of innocence and cleanliness from guilt. Wherever they go, they will remain what they are. People will shun them. People will KNOW them. And perhaps, they will know themselves. THAT is true punishment.

The Tale of Patrone the Pit Mastiff

 

Patrone was a dog, and a very fine boy
Of muscles and satiny coat, a real joy
to his doting fur-mommies he was just like a child
But Pat was a dog and they thought he was mild...

Those Mommies they pouted, they preened and they posed
Whilst the Bull doggy heart of poor Pat was confused.
They wanted a lap-dog, a lover, a mouse
So they loved on this Mastiff as one would a spouse
Pat slept in their beds as a good lover should but

To the point where it seemed he could not get enough,
And he sent his fur-mommy to work cut and bruised
She said he had bit her, but then got confused
and said she was savaged by canine unknown
So Patrone the Pit Mastiff stayed cosy at home...

We cannot blame Pat in the heart of this story
Although his finale was bloody and gory
His fur-mommies loved him, their precious best boy
Of muscles and satiny coat, a real joy.
The people nearby locked their doors and their gates
The fur-mommies said they were just full of hate
For their Pat was a sweetheart who'd lick them to death
And not some foul beast who would steal their last breath...

This story must end as most fairytales do
When princesses frown and their crowns go askew
Reality beckoned one day for Patrone
When his resident Mommy did something so wrong
And opened the door for the Mastiff to roam
Not safe in a yard or watched from their home
Big Pat took a tour of the streets in deep joy
The pride of his fur-mommies and their bestest boy
Their licky-lick lover and gentle sweetheart
Took a shine to a stranger and tore her apart.
He took Bull dog kisses of cervical spine, and
he opened her throat to release the rich wine
He chewed on her legs and took flesh from the bone
Quite simply forgetting his Mommies at home,
Quite simply remembering all that he was,
Patrone, my dear friends, was a Pit fighting dog,
No lover, no daddy, no lap-dog was he
No bed-sharing, joy-giving, life homily
Patrone the Pit Mastiff with blood on his teeth
And his tail wagging hard in genetic release.

The moral contained in this tale is quite clear
If you look and you learn and you hold your life dear
You stand with your canine as mistress or master
You make him your child, you court a disaster
You choose your pet wisely and always avoid
Those dogs with the teeth, and the muscles, the maws,
The deep-chested, dead-eyed, goof-grinning jaws....
You'll look, really look, and you'll know what you see
Is purpose-designed with a dark history
Ignore it, deplore it, explain it away,
And call it a sweetheart for all and a day
And bed it, and love it, and praise it as mild
And smooch it, caress it, and call it your child

Patrone was removed from the scene of his crime
And his fur-mommies wept at the thought of the time
That their poor boy would spend in the pound, all alone,

the following is the witness statement of the heroic man who came to the aid of the victim of the most recent fatal pit bull attack. he was also brutally attacked.

Driving southbound on SR7 from the American Lake VA Hospital I saw a middle aged heavy set woman jumping and screaming for help on the other side and then I saw two dogs mauling something in the ditch. Assuming the worst, her child I veered to the center land, hit the hazards and jumping out bounding across two lanes of heavy traffic at 0900 on October 30th to find two pit bulls mauled a senior Asian woman. This woman was clearly severely injured and unable to defend herself as the two dog had her quartered and ripping arm and leg. Her clothes were already half ripped off and deep lacerations were clearly evident. I immediately start growing, yelling and punching the larger male pit bull in the nose as both dog turned their attack to me. Punching both dogs to lured them into oncoming traffic, I focused my attack on the alpha male and kicked at the female dog to insure both pursued me into traffic to use the passing vehicles as weapons since I was unarmed due to visiting the VA and passing through Joint Base Lewis McChord, Russian Roulette being better than certain death. Unfortunately a white sedan missed me and stopped short of hitting the larger male pit bull. I advanced on the animal taking control pounding its head into the road as the small female got my left upper thigh. Once that female dog locked on my thigh I tried to through the larger male pit bull into the next lane of traffic as a desperate act but the collar broke. I knew I had to stop traffic to get help. When that collar broke I turned my blows to the female's nose to break her locked jaw on my thigh. With success I immediate lunged on to the white sedan that was blocking one lane of traffic to catch my breath and access the situation. The male pit bull got my leather sneaker and was trying to pull me from the hood on the car. I saw cars stopping and a truck driving up the side walk to the woman location and the female dog was back at the old woman again as I kicked the male in the nose. I jumped and run to the ditch for the female dog to get it off the woman again as the male dog pursued me. I laid into the female dog punching and two men approached from different direction to the woman and the truck that came up the side walk. The three men were able to distract the male pit bull as I attacked the female pit again to get it off the victim. The female dog pursue me back into the street as I continued punching hoping the two men and truck driver would be able to keep the larger male dog off me. I shouted orders to the truck driver to run that dog down and kill it while the two men kept it off as I fought the female back into the street. One man was bit by the male dog while I was fighting the female in the middle of the street. Bystanders were approaching and some woman actually screamed at me to leave that dog alone!!!! I was slowing with exhaustion and the male pit bull left the man, truck and victim and came to the female pit bulls aide. In total exhaustion and was unable to counter the attack and the male dog locked onto my right forearm and latched cracking bones and ripping flesh. The cracking of bone was an instant shock and an eternity of hesitation. I punched it nose and pulled to prevent my arm from elbow or shoulder damage as I was taken down. The female bit my left punching fist so I used her head to hit the male dog and break it hold. Only with God's help it worked and I crawled to the hood of the white sedan again with female dog pulling at my feet. Unable to continue severely injured myself, I scrambled to the roof of the car. The pickup driver on the sidewalk in his truck next to the victim fired a personal sidearm as the male pit bull return to the two men and victim. I thank the off duty soldier and promised to bear witness. The inured male dog fled. With the knowledge of backup I scrambled to the victim to access and triage but the female dog returned to me and the victim. I gave orders of assessment to a new male bystander for the triage of the victim as I had to fight the female dog again. Due to shock, injury and exhaustion the female dog was able to easy lock onto my injured right forearm and able to crack bone again. With a punch to the nose I was able to return to the victim and make a visual of the injuries, Deep laceration to the all extremities with bicep hanging. I order the victim covered from the cold until professional help arrived. I scampered to my vehicle to call Brenda Roman to get the kids to school and come to my location and help me back to the hospital. As police approached I directed and order them to kill female pit bull as I limped back toward the animal that the men were keeping abbey from me and the victim. Three Sheriffs isolated the dog as I directed paramedics to the victim not me. Once the police finally shot the last dog and I was answering the medic’s questions I provided the police with ID and initial brief. Medics recommend I go with them, but I choose to return to my clinic where I knew everyone. Injured soldier that helped offered ride to nearby Madigan Army Hospital. Again I declined choosing to return to my Urgent Care at American Lake VA Hospital where I know everyone.

georgia 23 year old REBECCA CAREY was a devoted dog rescuer. her current pack consisted of 2 pit bulls, 2 presa canarios and a boxer mix. one or more of them killed her. CAREY'S parents authorized the dirt naps for all 5 dogs.

one of the presas was owned by fellow lion tamer JACKIE CIRA and claims her presa was a THERAPY dog. CIRA was also the person who found CAREY, stating "It looked like she hit her head." CIRA thinks there was a rush to judgement in killing all 5 dogs, adding that CAREY would be devastated by their destruction, especially the "pit bull".

"She was a very experienced dog handler," she said, adding Carey was not naive when it came to dealing with aggressive canines.

"If she found out it was a dangerous dog, they were gone," Cira said. "She felt strongly that dangerous dogs had no business being in society where they could attack a child or something."

CAREY'S neighbors are interviewed in the video in the fox link at the bottom. they claim the dogs were not dangerous. whenever the dogs ESCAPED, they would just tell them to go home.

By now everyone has heard about the gruesome mauling of Roy McSweeney in Hawthorne, FL. If you haven't, click here and here. This nightmare has sparked interest in Florida animal control laws among my people.

A link to a 2006 article from The Gainesville Sun landed in my email inbox. After a series of horrific dog attacks, the Alachua county commissioners decided it was time to ban dangerous dogs. Twelve citizens spoke at the public meeting, only two were opposed to the non-breed specific banning of dangerous dogs. And only one of those people was named in the article - TONI DIANE FAIR.

Two of the 12 speakers from the audience expressed concerns over the ordinance. Toni Fair, owner of a dangerous dog named Elvis, said that with the assistance of Animal Services she has learned how to properly confine the dog and that no further trouble has occurred.

I am always curious about the people who fight against common sense laws, so I consulted The Google. Not only did I find a 2003 DUI conviction, I found that in April 2011 TONI FAIR was cited for FAILURE TO COMPLY W/ DANGEROUS DOG REQUIREMENTS. Well, so much for her one on one training on proper confinement. On June 9, 2011, the day before Roy McSweeney's horrific mauling, TONI DIANE FAIR pled non-guilty. She was fined $71. FAIR paid $50 and the remaining balance of $21.00 was dismissed.

TURNER attempted to help save the little dog, unlike the majority of nutters who are too afraid (or entertained). TURNER was cited and signed over the frankenmauler.

MARTINEZ is upset that the victim didn't allow her time to pry her dog off of the greyhound. obviously, if she doesn't the strength to remain upright, she doesn't stand a chance of disengaging her dog's jaws.

the greyhound received 5 staples in his neck. the victim will not be charged by police, although the nutter infected humane society is considering cruelty charges (request a jury trial) and MARTINEZ was cited "unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog". along comes SHAWNA PUGMIRE, rescue angel and former "dog trainer" who swears on a stack of bibles that FLATO is not dangerous and she lets her 6 yr old play with it. PUGMIRE insists that if MARTINEZ was given a few seconds, she would have gained control over her beast. i can see why her dog training services are no longer desired.

30 yr old JAMES CASEY SWANSON has been charged with manslaughter for the fatal mauling of his friend, neighbor and tenant Ronnie Waldo. the grand jury indicted this bad boy as a habitual offender. SWANSON has two separate burglary convictions and was currently on probation. he is sitting in county jail because allowing violent pit bulls to run loose violated his probation.

85 yr old rosie humphreys and her poodle were both killed today by a loose pit bull.

an interesting comment was left by KELLY. "Have pictures of the dog been released yet? Why hasn’t anyone done anything about the supposed fighter/ breeder! It just sucks cause I own three myself and I get so much grief when this stuff happens."

pit nutters, always inconvenienced by the "stuff" their wiggle butts do. poor kelly, she will be feeling the heat now for the next week or so. man that really sucks.
