on sunday, dogsbite.org featured the story of a woman who was snookered into the "pit bulls are just dogs, it's all how you raise them" rubbish. then on monday, another victim of the pit bull propaganda machine relayed their experience with the dickson, tennessee pit bull rescue ELEVEN ELEVEN run by JASON AYER and his trophy wife KRISTEN in yet ANOTHER failed wiggle butt adoption from last october. JASON AYER adopted out a pit bull named DILLINGER and within minutes of arriving home, DILLINGER attacked them. the woman received 60 stitches and the man required reconstructive surgery on his leg. during the quarantine, DILLINGER SOMEHOW got out of his kennel and severely mauled the animal control officer. WSMV contacted JASON AYERS and he made the following statement about DILLINGER'S rampage: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families of this unforeseen tragedy and for the millions of pit bulls in this country who will be unfairly blamed for this rare, unfortunate incident."
8.23.10 another individual's experience with ELEVEN ELEVEN BULLY RESCUE:
these rescues must be reported the states that license them.

Please, SUE JASON AYER! SUE THIS ORGANIZATION!
He is going to kill someone!
Deed, right? He needs to take accountability for his deeds of getting people hurt.
They need to be reported to the IRS charity dept too. Report to State Department of Agriculture. And contact the government leaders where the rescue is located, because they need to examine the kennel license. And the POLICE need to know.
This is insanity. These "rescues" have financial issues, they are causing physical injury, there is deceit, it is out of control.
But as long as they are allowed to do these bad things, they will.
They need to take him to small claims court, not to mention report the bite incident to animal control. I honestly can't understand people who have something like this happen and RETURN the dog to the rescue or shelter that farmed it out to them. Contact local vets. Find a sensible one, and have the aggressive animal put down, or the next attack is on your head.
"... this unforeseen tragedy and for the millions of pit bulls in this country who will be unfairly blamed for this rare, unfortunate incident."
Rare? Unforeseen? Try, "classic." Try, "I saw this coming from a mile away." Try, "Will place dangerous pit bulls in unsuspecting homes for cash."
Craven, "trophy wife?" More like, "I think I remember her from my buddy's bachelor party. Guess what you get for an extra twenty bucks? Guess how much it cost to treat what you get for twenty bucks." ;-)
Dogs are children too.

These no kill people are truly crazy. The strange thing is they think it's fine to let hoarders kill pets, or to chain dogs up 24/7, or let pit bulls kill pets. Maybe that's how they think kids should be treated.
I wonder how much cash these people are out for their trouble? I know someone that recently paid an adoption fee of 250 for a mutt puppy through an all breed rescue. They were told it was a lab/shepherd, but the older it gets; the more it looks like a pit mix. Honestly, when rescues are taking money like that, how are they not a business? I got my (end of the liter) registered pup for 60 bucks from a local farm couple. I open the paper and here are registered labs, *asking* 225, and reg. boston terriers 150, miniature schnauzers 65. So how are these “rescues” not tax paying businesses when they essentially churn free stock for more than what a breeder would charge? Not that it isn’t admirable to help a dog that needs a home, but WTF?
So many reckless rescues out there putting the public at risk. I'm so happy that there are blogs like yours and Dogsbite.org who are compiling this information and sharing it with all of us.
This "rescue" needs to be sued. I doubt they even have a 501(c)3. "Rescue" has become a way to make a living for a lot of people.
Someone should contact Petfinder and share the link, and request that they be removed.
Anonymous at 2:02 pm Sounds like the "purebred dogs" you are seeing advertised are from back yard breeders or puppymills.
But anyway, $250.00 for a rescue dog is NOTHING. In my area there are rescues getting as much as $900.00 for an "adoption fee". Not shitting you. Ginger's Pet Rescue is one of them. She doesn't deal in pits but the cutsie designer dogs. Then she makes up sad stories/lies about them to "pull at people's heartstrings"
as she is fond of saying. But most of the rescues around here are chargeing around 450-650 for "adoption" fees. Quite the lucrative business.
it is supply and demand. my experience with shelters and rescues, the larger more undesirable dogs like pits and rotts, come with a lower adoption fee and all kinds of *free* stuff like obedience classes and FENCING! no shit, FREE FENCING! why? because the shelters and rescues are overflowing with them. little dogs on the other hand? higher adoption fees, sometime 3-6 times higher than a pit. very few of them to choose from. they actually bring them in from other states. because people just don't want the frankenmaulers.
"I got my (end of the liter) registered pup for 60 bucks from a local farm couple. "
Hello! You bought a dog from a PUPPY MILL.
"Registered" is meaningless. Puppy mill puppies ARE registered, often AKC. What do you think registered means? It's a trick to get you to buy. It's just an empty piece of paper that naive people think is significant or think is impressive. All that farm couple did was fill out a form, and they usually lie on those anyway.
You got cheated.
Your farm couple were PUPPY MILLERS. This is how these cretins operate. And their puppies are NOT spayed or neutered, and often die of parvo or some other disease because they don't vaccinate or do anything.
That's why they are so cheap.
And why their hips fall apart before they're a year, or they go blind, or whatever genetic mess comes out of these "farms."
Puppies are a cash crop for these people.
You didn't figure that out? This made sense to you?
You better educate yourself about puppy mills, because you don't have a clue, my friend.
This is how the puppy mills thrive- ignorance on the part of the buyer.
Those puppies you saw advertised in the paper are PUPPY MILLS too. Puppy mills are calling them rescues as another trick to get people to buy.
There are very reputable rescues and shelters that do not deal in pit bulls charging adoption fees of $250 because they spay and neuter, do all the shots, worming, EVERYTHING. Many of them are microchipping too, providing supplies, with that fee.
If you paid a vet for everything provided, it would be much higher than $250.
There are many bad rescues. We see them here.
But buying a puppy mill dog because you were too cheap or uneducated is no excuse, and you got no bargain. And slamming good rescues or shelters is just asinine.
(I can't believe you didn't realize you bought from a puppy mill. I thought most people knew the tricks by now)
"In my area there are rescues getting as much as $900.00 for an "adoption fee". Not shitting you. Ginger's Pet Rescue is one of them. She doesn't deal in pits but the cutsie designer dogs."
As people learned more about puppy mills, the breeders had to change their tactics.
Many breeders now call their dogs "rescues" as a marketing tool, to get a sympathy purchase.
This is why you stick to reputable organizations (that also don't deal in pit bulls)
People really need to complain to their local papers about accepting these pets classified ads that are selling purebreds and designer breeds by listing them as rescues. This is fraud, but there is so little control over breeding because of lack of laws that they can squeeze by. But the papers should know they are helping to comnmit fraud.
This is how the lunatics that craven posts stories about operate.
The "farm couples." the "fake rescues" these are all puppy mill cons.
I know someone who sat in on a puppy mill convention who listened to an Amish farmer talk about how he tricks people by listing his puppy mill puppies as "rescues" to be "adopted."
(I still can't believe someone who thought a $60 puppy would have adequate vet care. Well, as long as these kinds of purchases happen, the puppy mills go on.)
Craigslist is a den of iniguity for the fake rescues, the corrupt pit bull dealing rescues, the puppy mill breeders posing as rescues, the dog fighters, the people looking to unload their biters or hiding away dangerous dogs.
That slob Craig the poseur knows that animals and people are getting hurt through their pets classified ads. But that weasel wouldn't want to limit his moneymaking, and he lets it go on.
People need to know to stay way the hell away from Craigslist if they want a pet. It's like a back alley of fraud.
Why wasn't jason reported to the local cops for financial fraud? And his local animal control for harboring a vicious dog?
"The "farm couples." the "fake rescues" these are all puppy mill cons."
That may be true in some cases, so I think it's good to be informed and discerning. My pup from a "farm couple" is from a farm couple I've known for years. Their business is soy beans, corn, cattle and real estate. They need income from a liter of puppies like they need a hole in the head. Family and friends had bothered them for years to find an equally brilliant mate for their dog, so when their kids were old enough, they were charged with the puppy responsibilities, got to keep a puppy to train and show in 4H, while the kids banked my big fat 60 bucks. So, yes, I guess this is a version of a back yard breeding farm couple? :)
And my previous dog came through a friend of a friend, also a back yard breeder wanting a dog out of his dog. I had 13 years of near bliss with that pup, won a blue ribbon “fun class” puppy confirmation, and a year later we placed in derby class gun dog stakes. (I thought we were hooked on competition until I burned out on what seemed like a whole lot of dog people politics - not that the dogs notice.) I literally had dozens of people harping on me for a pup from her, but she would not OFA certify so was spayed. (Generations of certifications and she was never symptomatic of dysplasia during her entire life. Go figure.) Of course she was almost twice the expense of my 60 dollar pup. I had to cough up a whopping hundred even for that one!
My next dog will also come from back yard breeders, as my veterinarian and his wife, who also qualify as a farm couple, have been looking for a just right match for their aging lab. We haven’t even discussed cost, but I doubt it will be more than a courtesy fee, if that.
Point being, there are always great dogs of an exact description for anybody with the patience to ferret one from the right circumstances. I can’t begin to fathom paying 250 for an unknown whatever from a rescue, much less something like 900?! Personally, I want the rest of that money for food and vet, never mind the war chest you’ll need in the event some toothless hillbilly’s pit bull slips the collar and attacks while you’re on a walk.
In my own version of “rescue,” (not really a rescue at all, but where chance and circumstance has landed a dog with me,) I’ve taken them to the vet, taught them some manners, got their weight up and campaigned on my dime to find these “free” dogs a good home. In my mind, that’s rescue; the rest are businesses. Certainly when they’re charging more for dumped dogs then what some “for profit” breeders are asking? Good grief!
I don't know how Jason and Kristen Ayer can still be operating a rescue!
I think most rescues have you sign a contract that require you to give the dog back to them if you can't keep them or no longer want them. The prices I have paid for adult adopted dogs have been $175, $70, and $235. Friend adopted a lab/boxer puppy for much higher and guess what it grew into? The latest thing is for private rescues to transport car loads of puppies from the southern states to the northeast, and rename all the pit mixes labs, boxers, etc.
"So, yes, I guess this is a version of a back yard breeding farm couple? "
Yes, it is. It's a puppy mill.
You can't raise a decent puppy in decent circumstances and sell it for 60 bucks.
And the fact that you had no idea that registration papers mean nothing is indicative.
Unfortunately, people like you help the puppy mill industry thrive. You're what keep the Swaffords and those like them going.
Maybe some day you might be a little less concerned about the fake reg papers, and RESCUE a dog that one of your hunting buddies abandons. The hunting dog puppy mills are among the worst, and many of those guys just dump their unwanted dogs to die.
As for a vet being a backyard breeder, that's about the lowest form of life.
There are many forms of vermin in the dog world.
The latest thing about the importing of pets is a scheme by Nathan Winograd to put pressure on the open door shelters. Why would you bring in more dogs when the shelters are still euthanizing them? When the rescues can stop getting animals from the shelters, then the shelter will have to euthanize more. This way the Whino can yell about the rising euthanization rate. Blackmail is all it is.
"So, yes, I guess this is a version of a back yard breeding farm couple? "
"Yes, it is. It's a puppy mill."
Are you for real? A family breeds one damn liter and according to you they've become a puppy mill? If my vet breeds a liter so he can carry on the lineage of his beloved old lab, he’s the “lowest form of life?” Head check asshole – you’re out of your God damn mind!
"You can't raise a decent puppy in decent circumstances and sell it for 60 bucks."
Bull shit. If my dog wasn't already neutered, if I had bothered to follow through on registration because of any plan of breeding him, if I had family and friends leaning on me to produce a liter from a remarkable dog, if I had kids that could learn responsibility has rewards, (even modest rewards from family and friends,) I could easily afford and be perfectly content to make everybody happy for a lot less than that. But I bet that wouldn't stop some deluded internet douche-bag from calling ME a puppy mill as well. Jesus! I’ve never heard anything more f-ing absurd!
"and RESCUE a dog that one of your hunting buddies abandons. The hunting dog puppy mills are among the worst, and many of those guys just dump their unwanted dogs to die."
This only illustrates how assuming and ignorant you are. The dog after my lab is a border collie, simply because I was such a fan of my friends’ dog. Not only does he herd, I've trained him to do triple marks, handle to blind retrieves, and he makes a spectacular water entry. He has taught me about herding, while I’ve shared my experience at training a retriever. And while I have known of people giving up on a few gun dogs, I don't know anyone that got rid of the dog. They end up adding a dog, with a better understanding of the importance of good papers that support a lineage of proven performance. It is not a coincidence that titled trial dogs beget more winning trial dogs and great pups, even if the owner has no interest in competition. Whether they spend a hundred dollars through friends, or three thousand dollars for papers with extraordinary bragging rights is up to them. It is not merely a matter of how you raise and train them, or we could assume the same for pit bulls. (“It’s all in how they’re raised,” eh?) Not only does breed matter, breeding matters once you have specific performance in mind.
“Maybe some day you might be a little less concerned about the fake reg papers, and RESCUE a dog”
Thanks for proving what a perfect jerk off you are as you go about ignoring the facts, like where I stated that I have taken in dogs, spent hundreds at the vet, prepared them for a new life by getting them healthy and adding some training. This is all from my own wallet, free from rescue organizational bull shit, and in particular, without exposure to assholes like you. I ask for nothing in return other than to see my project go forward, “FREE to a good home!” The fact that I want what I’ve chosen for my personal, permanent dogs speaks to my experience with all types of dogs, including not one, but two rescue dogs that were giant f-ing mistakes. Lesson learned – twice!
Sorry if you’re one of these douche bag rescue types trying to place dogs with the whopper fees. No wonder people turn to ACTUAL puppy mills and parking lot puppies. Not only do they not want to spend big bucks for a mutt that might be a pit bull, but it’s easy to understand them being horrified by the thought of having to deal with somebody as frighteningly loony as you!
"Are you for real? A family breeds one damn liter and according to you they've become a puppy mill? If my vet breeds a liter so he can carry on the lineage of his beloved old lab, he’s the “lowest form of life?” Head check asshole – you’re out of your God damn mind!"
Anon:57 yes they easily fall into that catagory. Once this "family" sees the easy money, then it will be litter after litter. And the Fucking vet, he should know better and go get another lab from the shelter instead. Don't breed or buy as long as they die should be any good vet's motto. You need to get a "mind" rather than continue to sound like the idiot you are.
How many shelter dogs came from what your describe? "Oh, my friends want a puppy from my wonderful dog" is not an excuse to make more. Plenty of wonderful dogs in the shelters and they need to come out because the fucking pits are taking up all the room and the good dogs have to die for these frankenmaulers to live.
You're one sick MF, Anon, the type which are responsible for good dogs dying in the shelters with your pervert line of thought. FREE TO A GOOD HOME should never be a catch line for anyone doing "rescue". It is a death sentence for a pet in a disposable society.
why argue with you, I think you're a fucking liar anyway.
Nein! Nein! Nein! You vil get’n zee rescue mutt, or you is der puppy miller und liar! Heil PETA! Obey!
Bwaaaaaaaaaa-hahahahahaha!
your ignorance disgusts me. Dogs are a product of their environment and diet. Your small minded outlook is the exact origin of those that are racist breed lovers, and no different from the abusers. Perhaps one day your own dogs will suffer for the blasphemy and disgrace you spread. God forbid they get out and someone throws them in a cage and pokes at them with a claw, while cutting off their food only to be graded on they respond. And then if they can escape the torture, only to find some redneck take them home wreaking of alcohol and feces. I'd be pretty confused and I'd bite them too. I wish more dogs fought back than die or torture and starvation. No different than a man that hits a women is your mentality for breed specific compassion. You shouldn't be allowed to have a dog or open your mouth about anyone else's family!
your disgusting. let's put you back in your cage!
dogs are first and foremost a product of their genetics, although environment and diet do play a part.
what do your comments have to do with these fucked up instances of scam rescues? can you stay on topic or is your intent to call these adopters out and claim they are animal abusers?
i do agree that it would awesome if all dogs, no wait, all animals, fought back against their human tormenters.
i might need to blog about your insane old testament rambling. is this selwyn?
