Hamilton Humane and the Power of Love and Anger

i don't know, maybe it was the fact that nutters just had that purpose bred video deleted from liveleak or maybe it was the 5 minute mutant rampage that destroyed 2 innocent normal dogs or maybe it was the sight of an ex-marine choking back the tears as he relived the nightmare of the pit bull grabbing Junior from his arms but this story really pissed me off.

Junior

ex-marine Tony Yeary received an education in purpose bred dogs when a pit bull escaped containment and went on a killing spree. APOLLO ripped Tony's 6 month old dachshund from his arms and killed him as well as another dog in the span of 5 minutes.

Tony Yeary reliving his nightmare

“He dragged Junior to the side of the lake and mauled him relentlessly,” said Yeary. “(The dog was) shaking him and bitting him. Junior was looking at me and I could not help him.”

owner of the rampaging killer

APOLLO'S owner gave the news crew the classic badrap misunderstood spiel. including “You can ask anybody around here, including my neighbor, wonderful dog.”

Apollo is a rescue dog adopted from The Humane Society for Hamilton County. The dog passed all of the shelter’s tests and was adopted. The north east side apartment complex does not allow pit bulls, but they made an exception.

how unfortunate that the management made this exception. of course i am always skeptical when shelters claim the dog was fine when it left their facility. not long ago, the shelter in neighboring marion county run by JOHN ALESHIRE tried to pull the same stunt after a mutant they recently adopted out, to a cop of all people, mauled the neighbor.

APOLLO'S STORY

this ad was written up shortly after May 16, 2012.

About Apollo
Sometimes humankind baffles even the most jaded animal advocate.
Apollo and his sister Athena were found locked in a windowless storage unit with no food, water or ventilation on May 17, 2011. It is likely that they had been in there for up to one week. The police seized the dogs and brought them to HSHC for safekeeping. Understandably, Apollo was fearful of all the new people, noises and attention. But he was so grateful to be in a safe and caring place with food, water and an air-conditioned kennel. He weighs 52 lbs. now, but only weighed 45lbs when he arrived revealing every bone in his body. As you might expect, his medical exam showed him to be emaciated, dirty, dehydrated, his tail was broken and bleeding, his ears were infected and his tooth was broken. We estimate him to be about 4 years old, an American Pit Bull mix who we have had neutered. He has a perpetually worried brow, but we are seeing that improve each day.

It is one year later, and Apollo is still waiting for his forever home. It has been a long road to recovery for this sweet boy. He has gone from having to be carried in and out of the kennel because he was too scared to walk to being able to walk on leash with the encouragement of our dedicated staff and volunteers. He is finding his courage more and more every day through the power of love. He loves to have his belly rubbed and takes treats gently. Due to a lack of socialization, he is selective about other dogs and is not good with cats. He would be best suited in a home as the only dog and with children ages 13 and up due to his sometimes nervous nature.

We recently attended the trial of the person responsible for leaving Apollo and his sister Athena is such horrific conditions, and were pleased to report he was convicted of animal neglect and cruelty and ordered to pay restitution to the Humane Society.

Now the only unfinished business we have is to find the home for Apollo that he has always deserved. His owner needs to be patient and understanding of Apollos past, but the reward theyll receive with his undying love and loyalty will be well worth it. You must be 21 to adopt our sweet Greek god!
okay cravenites. pop quiz. who believes:
- in the healing power of belly rubs?
- an abused pit bull described as having a "nervous nature" and is best suited in a home with no other animals and kids over 13 passed all tests?
- an apartment complex is a suitable environment for a dog with those restrictions?
- that 7 lbs underweight for a pit bull equals "emaciation"?

nutters live a fairy tale life.

you can also find APOLLO'S sad tale on their SURVIVOR PROGRAM. cuz nothing brings in more donations and creates a greater sense of purpose and unity than the sob story of an abused pit bull.

APOLLO'S TIMELINE

December 2, 2011   We thought last Friday was pretty great...but today was pretty darn special. Not because of the number of animals adopted...but because of who went home: Dogs - Max, Nelson, Zeus, Moby.....and APOLLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cats: Anne, Quinn...and BEN!!!!!!!!!!! Found in a storage unit in the sweltering heat and starving....nursed back to health and shown love and kindness....to his forever home tonight. Have a wonderful life, Apollo. — with Damian Buchanan.

December 23, 2011    Our day started off right with a visit from one of our favorite former residents....APOLLO!! He was just hanging out with his Dad today, and they stopped by to say hi. Great way to start off the day! We are open from Noon to 5pm today and tomorrow...so many pets waiting for a forever home!

the nutter president of the board even chimed in to wish him well.

Ben Winecki    So happy for that boy. Have a good Christmas Apollo, I am sure it is much better than your last.

at some point, this first adoption failed and APOLLO was returned to the shelter. i can't imagine why?

screenshot from the HAMILTON HUMANE'S pit bull PSA.
if pit bulls are just like any other dog, why do they require special educational materials?

May 16, 2012    We are so thankful to report that person responsible for keeping Apollo and Athena locked in a Carmel storage unit last May, was found guilty today on 2 charges of animal neglect, a Class A Misdemeanor. Sentencing is set for next month, but we hope this sends a loud and clear message about animal abusers in Hamilton County. Athena has been in a wonderful, loving home, but Apollo still waits for his forever home. Thanks to Lt. Amy Stein for her hardwork and dedication to making sure someone paid for this crime.

June 20, 2012   APOLLO is so fearful, rightfully so after everything he has been through. He needs an experienced owner who can help him overcome his fear. We recommend he go to a home with kids over 13. No cats in the home for Apollo, but he lived with his sister Athena all of his life so he does like other dogs. We would want to do a meet and greet with any other dogs in the home to make sure it's a good fit.

let's see, APOLLO has been receiving food, vet care, love and belly rubs for 13 months and he is still fearful and "rightfully so". no cats, no small kids but now they will make an exception with other dogs and they have added needs an "experienced" owner. sounds like they were getting desperate to get this dog out of their system, AGAIN. so desperate they apparently fudged just a wee bit on that statement about passing "all tests".

November 13, 2012   Today's adoptions: Cats - Jax, Jillie! Dogs - Mitzi, Java, and...APOLLO. Most of you know he has been in a wonderful foster home these past few months. Today, he was adopted. From a storage unit where he as kept in a cage, to a wonderful, loving home. We couldn't be happier for you sweet boy!

this appears to be nervous APOLLO'S second forever home, the "experienced" owner in the apartment complex that lead to the violent deaths of two dogs in 5 minutes.

MAY 14, 2013 one of the shelter supporters posts the story to the shelter's facebook page. they come to the defense of the shelter, except one woman who said it is too bad that the shelter staff did not follow up to make sure APOLLO was getting his required quota of belly rubs. the humane society jumps in with: "Lynette without getting into too much detail, please don't believe everything the media reports. There were quite a few incorrect facts reported, and his being tied to a tree is one of them."

it looks like Hamilton Humane might have killed their one and only alibi. lol, good job nutters!

two more supporters posted the link to the tragic killings.

May 14, 2013 Diana Ramello-Parrish wrote:  Poor thing has been through so much in his life. I hate to hear he was tied to a tree. I know how hard you all worked to help him. My thoughts and prayers are going up to you all.

absolutely NO concern is expressed for the 2 dead dogs or their owners. beautiful.

May 15, 2013   Carla Shroyer Sanders wrote: You know, I think that some humans are sick, and that is why they do terrible things. Perhaps as a result of abuse or some genetic problem that makes them do those things. Maybe the same is true for animals? Unfortunately, the news will only focus on the negative.

yes carla, that genetic problem has a name. it is called  Deoxyribonucleic acid.

as i read through the HAMILITON HUMANE'S facebook page and burrowed through their website and videos, it hit me. these organizations are emotional support groups for rescue angels. my advice - please seek professional help and leave the rest of society out of your mess.

Mr Yeary please get together with the other victim and file a lawsuit against the nutter pictured above, the owner of the apartment building for approving the mutant and most importantly, the HUMANE SOCIETY for HAMILTON COUNTY for falsely claiming APOLLO passed all of his tests. i have all of these saved as pdfs, in case REBECCA STEVENS wants to try and get cute by deleting the evidence.

meet some of the nutters

these quotes and screenshots were taken from their 27 minute mission statement.

"The humane society doesn't discriminate against any breeds. Because there is increased responsibility and public sensitivity that comes with certain breeds, additional restrictions for adoptions are followed. Adopters must be at least 21 years old and meet the requirements of a special adoption." NARRATOR

"We touch their feet, pull their ears, look at their teeth and we use the plastic hand to see if they are food aggressive."

"Rebecca spent a lot of time with us actually educating us about pit bulls because I had a lot of reservations. I didn't know anything about the breed when we went there. All I heard was the bad stuff that you hear on the news, about dogfighting or a pit bull attacking. So I had a lot of insecurities about this breed." KIM RODERER

interesting. in 2009 she had 3 pits (she only had 2 in the video) and was also pimping grippers for her buddy. since she is friends with REBECCA and past presidents, her presence in the video feels staged and artificial.

"Everybody has their own reason for wanting to come in and get a pet and we have to really understand what that is and we have to really get to know them and that's what I think ultimately really makes us good at matching them because we know the animals so well."

she did a fantastic job pairing up APOLLO, not just once but TWICE!

"We absolutely have the heart of the best interests for these animals. We definitely want them to have the best chance and a second chance at life."

emphasis is on THESE animals. they don't give a fuck about THOSE animals that will be stuck living next to the mutants they place in the community.

"I'll look at just one dog on any particular day and I'll think 'somebody really let you down.' You were a little puppy once. You were entrusted to some human some where and they betrayed you and that makes me sad, it makes me angry. You just want to make it up to them."

there ya go. these rescue angels are angry. in the process of making it up to APOLLO, two normal dogs are dead and their families are devastated.

"Making a good match is the most important thing in finding an animal a forever home."

in their short pit bull PSA, executive director REBECCA STEVENS and VP of operations DR TARA L HARRIS proclaim they are proud pit bull owners and provide the low down on the low cost services for pit bulls only and other pit only perks they offer.

* note the pit bull education section of their website has it's very own donate button. this page also links to a more in depth page of "facts" compliments of the usual suspects: badrap, PBRC, ATTS and of course the mother ship of lies - NCRC/animal farm foundation where they regurgitate the standard fare: ATTS, find the pit bull, loyal people pleasing, Helen Keller, Teddy Roosevelt, Lil Rascals, media bias yadda yadda yadda.

Gee..At $20 a day, it only cost them $8000 to kill those two pets.

Doesn't anyone get fired anymore?!?

On another note, why is it a felony to traffick a dog for fighting, yet trafficking a pit bull to maul a child or kill a neighborhood pet is legal?!?

*Disclaimer..You Can't Make This Stuff Up!

Disgusting. I'm always amazed by people who go into the AC business professing to love animals when it turns out they really just love pit bulls. Nutters never care about the pets their mutants kill.
To the poor man who had to watch his buddy get shredded - I wish I'd been there with my gun.

I guess APOLLO! will be renamed and grifted out again?

"On another note, why is it a felony to traffick a dog for fighting, yet trafficking a pit bull to maul a child or kill a neighborhood pet is legal?!?"

Exactly! This is a problem that troubles me deeply. I suggest a federal law that makes the interstate traffic of dogs with a violent history for the purpose of re-homing a violation of federal law, just like interstate traffic for the purpose of dog fighting. My life was changed by a pit bull that was re-homed in just this manner.

Any dog that can't be "rehabilitated" and placed within a YEAR has problems that can't be fixed. Is it humane to hold dogs in a facility for months and years? No!

The humane, safe, and financially sound decision would be to put these dogs down and make room for animals suitable for families. A restriction like "no cats, no children" tells us that the shelter staff was well aware of the dangers posed by Apollo.

Humane societies and their enablers are very much a part of the problem. It's time to stop donating to them. And it's time to start suing them.

i think perhaps inhumane societies have special status against being sued . of course there would be a media blitz calling for help with legal costs and the fucking nutters would help finance some scumbag lawyer . the victim would go bankrupt and the do-gooders would be laughing their socks-off. sucks to be a victim of pitbulls in a world of nutters and idiot , spineless , bureaucrats.

Last night I was at my weekly agility class.

I made a pit bull comment right near the start of class while talking to the instructor (who has no love of them either).

Later in class one of the young ladies mentioned something about her other dog. She said he "did not like other dogs cuz he is scared of them". I asked what kind he was and got the "lab/pit bull", and you see "he has a scar on his jaw and because of that they assume he was attacked by another dog when he was young and that is why he wants to attack other dogs"
He is 7 years old and they have had him many many years. I guess belly rubs did not rehabilitate him.
I don't think that is going to go well one day for their smallish terrier mix. He might just get "scared" of her one day.

The story of Junior is heartbreaking and maddening all at the same time. How dare this dog be put out in society to be around other people and pets. There should be some legal recourse. Sad thing is Junior is just "personal property" and that is all the court will value him at.

So now Apollo will no doubt be renamed and rehomed to kill again.

I was honestly shocked that liveleak pulled the purpose bred puppies video. They have some really awful stuff up there, and that video was oh so tame. I guess it just shows the power of the nutters.

I am going to have to go back and watch the "kill that shit" video to get me out of the mood Juniors story has put me in.

If the perps who are adopting these things out are held financially responsible, perhaps they'll change their ways. I think the pit bull business is too lucrative, that's why they push them.

"ask my neighbors. Wonderful dog."

After the fact, how can this imbecile make such an asinine statement? Obviously NOT a wonderful dog. Doomed from the beginning, it could have never been more than a POS pit bull, along with a POS moron who would own one. That steaming pile of stupid needs to be sued, as does the complex owner who allowed the exception, as does that worthless collection of shitbags at Hamilton inHumane.

As for helping veterans... What higher calling could there be than to facilitate a veteran's pup being ripped from his arms and murdered in front of his eyes? Beautiful fucking story! With good works like these, this band of assholes should be feeling warm and fuzzy for years to come.

While I am not of the faith, I am trained in the scriptures of the faithful and one comes to mind: "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." Proverbs 16:25.

Apropos wisdom in this context. Results trump intentions with death the reward. This man’s best friend - Junior – a child to him - ripped from his arms and murdered. This is what happens when “good works” are nothing but a filthy fetish for a deadly breed.

Fucking idiots. A pox on all their houses!

Your quiet neighbor is precisely right.

Some years back, I attended a talk given by Trish King on bully breeds. I kept my hand outs and thought I'd share them.

From Trish King, Former Director of Behavior, Marin County Humane Society

Lecture on Bully Breeds

Bully Dogs: Evaluating Selecting, and Training

Genetics;

Terriers:
bred for fast reflexes to kill unwanted animals.

Uninhibited bite

All terriers tend to be predatory--this tendency that has been exaggerated in bully breeds, leading to silent attacks.

Socializing bully breed Puppies;
Expect problems to occur and prepare accordingly

Many dogs have the potential to become aggressive.

Dog is born with one set of instincts. For instance, the killing bite is a fixed action pattern, part of the predatory instinct. But dogs have to learn what is prey and what is not.

Do not expect to utilize dog parks

Teach dog to ignore everything--other dogs and people until owner gives permission.

Some Pit Bulls are good with other pits, but not with other breeds...and vice versa.

Pit Bull or Pit Bull type dogs are reportedly responsible for a higher percentage of bites than other breed types.

The population of a particular breed has a great deal to do with the number of reported bites.

The size of the dog is relevant.
San Francisco Chronicle June 2005

Pit Bull Terriers are status symbols in some parts of the society.

Pit Bulls are also seen as the underdog that needs to be saved.

From the APBT Standard
"Because most of the APBT's exhibit some level of dog aggression and because of its powerful physique, the APBT requires an owner who will carefully socialize and obedience train the dog."

Trish King goes on to give her "private opinion"

Rather than punishing the dog for being born a particular breed, make the owner/guardian responsible for having that breed.

Ms. King acknowledges pit bulls are not just "any dog".

There is an interesting comment in Sternberg's excellent book, "Successful Dog Adoption", that potential adopters should be very skeptical of any dog that has been a shelter a very long time. The reality is, adopters tend to gravitate toward friendly, social dogs.....I am sure they don't really understand why they are attracted to certain dogs and not others. The reality is that dogs that offer gentle social gestures,( like soft eye contact, a low, wagging tail), and who seems to enjoy and are calmed by petting, tend to be self-selected by adopters. Dogs that are aloof, and merely tolerate petting, who would score low in "sociability" tests, simply are not as appealing.

It makes sense....normal people tend to value relationships where they get something in return for their effort and affection. I think that dogs have actually evolved with humans to develop gestures that we must unconsciously respond to...the soft, squinty eyes, ears back, low wagging tail, the dogs that seems to gently melt into you when you pet them....I think we are unconsciously attracted to dogs like this, and those dogs get adopted out quicker when they land in shelters. Dogs like Apollo probably give off all kinds of warning signs that they would not make a good pet....people just don't feel they connect with these dogs, and they can't explain why.

Naturally, dogs like Apollo tend to appeal to people with a deviant view of healthy relationships.....that would explain the bizarre statement from Apollo's owner. The Hamilton Humane Society backed themselves into a corner by trumpeting their "rehabilitation" of this dog to the public, so they could not euthanize him. So they lowered their standards and adopted him out to the first weirdo that clamed to want him.

I would love to see a lawsuit against a Humane Organization that adopts out a dangerous dog like this.

Steinberg, an expert in consulting with shelters on how to "market" their dogs, also admits that the the euthanisia rate is FAR, FAR, less than what the public thinks, thanks to the shelter and HS propaganda campaigns.

They are always wishing death or disease on "haters". My favorite is when they say they hope "haters" get eaten by a pit bull. So there you have it - they totally know what their mutants are capable of. I've never heard a nutter hope someone gets eaten by a chihuahua - even though Chihs are like WAY more aggressive. ;)
Ditto:
Death by Beagle
Death by Yorkie
Death by Sheltie
Death by weiner dog
Death by Mexican Hairless
Death by Alaskan Klee Kai
(Add your own!)

Nope. It's always "hope you get eaten by a pit bull."

Sternberg's sin is that she doesn't believe in adopting out potentially dangerous dogs to the average pet home, and she has done decades of research to help her identify which dogs are dangerous.

She believes that shelters are working within the reality of limited resources, so that when a decision has to be made about which dog to invest time and money into, shelters should choose dogs with sound temperaments over dogs with non-social, or aggressive temperaments. She believes that no friendly, adoptable dog should be euthanized for lack of space or resources.

She also believes that if more shelters offered the public friendly dogs with sound temperaments, people would view the shelter as the BEST place to get a family pet, and fewer people would buy from pet shops and puppy mills. This last observation I see as fact where I live....more and more families are turning away from adopting because of the train wrecks they see their friends and neighbors coming home with from the local shelters.

The irony is, she truly evaluates each dog as an individual, and not by breed....she WILL adopt out a pit bull that passes her temperament test. But fans of dangerous dogs hate her, because she won't humor them like most humane advocates do, and mouth the dumb platitudes about becoming no kill.

Her approach to dog adoption is humane, intelligent, and really celebrates the bond between people and dogs. If more shelters and rescues adopted her approach, I think you would see a significant drop in the number of people buying dogs from breeders.

Dr. Tara Harris is supposed to be a person who advocates for child safety, yet she is guilty by association of putting children at risk when these dogs are adopted out. Shame on her.

A person with a science background is supposed be a critical thinker. If she is going to endorse this shelter's policies of adopting out pit bulls, and in particular dogs with unknown histories or, that have displayed shyness and fear, (code for 'will become aggressive') she should bother to read up on how genetics, and the breeding of pit bulls contributes and controls their aggression and that NO amount of behavior modification will change their instincts.
The plastic hand test always cracks me up.

I wonder if the good doctor would call CPS if she treated a child that was mauled by an 'Apollo-type' dog from Hamilton Humane Society where she is Director of Operations? How would she feel then?

There is so much corruption with these so called animal experts, from AC officers, to dog behavior experts, to shelter veterinarians like that hippie Janowitiz from San Mateo.

Their primary and ONLY concern is getting a dog into a home rather than putting a questionable, high risk, dog down. I tell everyone never to give to a shelter and the reasons why.

I have two friends that are peds and both have treated kids mauled by pit bulls. They say the injuries are far more serious than just the average dog bite due to the muscle damage and tearing.

Tara Harris needs to wake up and smell the coffee if she wants to keep her reputation intact as a pediatrician.

Branwyn Finch, I agree with you.

We need more people like Sue to keep the public safe. After all, these adopters are clueless about canine behavior and in many cases its not their fault when that dog tears someone up. And, I'm not just referring to put bulls.

They were told their dog passed all the evaluations by 'so called' experts so why would they question them?

Shelters objective is to be able to show their low euthanasia rate so they can get more money.

I read about "Princess" who is a three time loser. They can not wait to set her loose upon the unsuspecting public again.

They had her since she was ten weeks old, gee how come her genetics were not loved out of her?

Why do I feel like they left out that she probably killed another pet when she "got her collar off while being walked"
-------
The perfect human companion came along who enjoyed outdoor activities just like she did. For a year her life was magical--just the two of them. But unfortunately her owner found himself in a position where he needed to move in with roommates. Even though they were told of the proper way to walk Princess since she is not good with other animals, they did not follow those instructions and Princess slipped out of a flat collar getting away one day. Afraid of what might happen if she got loose again, he felt it was in her best interest to return her to us. He couldn't guarantee his roommates would never set her up to fail, and it was a risk he wasn't willing to take.

Just remember to keep her away from cats and dogs and she will be the happiest Princess on the block! We want more than anything to find another perfect match for Princess. You must be 21 to adopt her.

What's really freaky is Dr. Tara Harris billing herself as an expert in Munchausen by Proxy. You really can't make this stuff up.

The cognitive dissidence with these pepole is somthing else.
Leave 2 dogs in a storage unit? Serious Business, get the law involved.

One of those dogs latter kills 2 pets and injurers people? Ho Hum, nothing to see here.

That beast had enough health problems it should have been put down. I suspect if it had been a normal breed or a cat it would have. Instead they dumped a bunch of money in to repairing it and then paid to store it for 2 years.

I hate how "humane" personnel think just labeling a pit "no kids, no cats" somehow makes it safe. Those dogs are not being flown to isolated islands where there are no children or cats. They get sent to our neighborhoods that have both. These beasts that want to kill anything smaller than they are get walked on our streets, taken to vets in our neighborhoods and "somehow" manage to get out.

A dog that can't be around kids or cats needs put down.
