stephanie grouix is the mother of logan shepard. her comment "poor babies" is in regards to an article written by josh liddy about pit bulls. recently josh liddy and a couple of other stooges ambushed merritt clifton, then uploaded the video to youtube. several people sent me the link. branwyne sent it with the following astute observation, that deserved to be shared:

These idiots heckling Merritt Clifton at a conference, then try to "debate" him after the talk and film it. They posted to youtube, and Merritt just posted it to his website. They are shrill, childish idiots from swaylove, I don't know who the woman is arguing that we DO need BSL, but these are just hysterical kids. This IS pit bull advocacy. No logic, no respect for other people, just narcissistic children who are angry that everyone doesn't love their dogs.

i just wanted to take this opportunity to share with craven readers the caliber of josh liddy's fellow pit bull advocates.

I found a job that allowed me to get small pets and Netflix. I'm babysitting so it doesn't interfere with time with my son and even gives him a playmate. The $80 a month allows me some extra money. We got two rats and a gerbil, the odds of a dangerous attack are pretty much zero. All three pets are already tamed and loveable. I know there was a case of rat bite fever in the news this year, but it's a very rare condition. Our pets are far less likely to kill anyone than a pit bull. Would I let a child younger than my six year old hold them? No, for their own safety as well as smaller kids, it would hurt if they reacted to being squeezed by biting. Do I allow the six year old to handle them alone? No, again for safety reasons, he could hurt them, or they could get away. Still, they're not going to escape and kill a four year old, not even a two year old. The reason I shared this with you is because I watched a documentary on Netflix called "The Elephant in the Living Room". It seems the same things apply to people who own big cats, chimps, poisonous snakes, and creatures like them that apply to pit owners. They think they have a right to endanger the public, because they want to make these wild animals into pets.

I have nothing against "exotic" animals, obviously, but I do think rodents, fish, birds, and some small lizards are far different from tigers, lions, bears, vipers, komodo dragons and the like. It's scary how few states require anything to own those animals. It seems we need some common sense when it comes to just what qualifies as a pet in this country and pits should be carefully looked at in the same light as big cats, apes and snakes.

re: the elephant in the room, did you notice the pudgy slug made an appearance?

Anonymous said...

Yes I did. I am glad it finally became illegal to own some of the exotics in Ohio. It's a shame pits don't make the exotic list, it could save so many lives and limbs. After seeing what happened to the snake in Florida, I think it's time to ban ownership of them as pets. Who really needs a python anyway? The pudgy slug is useless judging by the number of attacks in Ohio. I'm still trying to figure out why Indiana's rates don't seem as high. I know at least ten people who own some type of bully in my small town and I'm sure there are at least 20 more. Believe me, that doesn't help me sleep at night.

This kid is very immature and self-absorbed. He denies genetics play any roll whatsoever in dog behavior. Dogs are dogs, he says.

What reality is he living in?

Someone should ask him if he thinks Archie Manning and his wife had a better chance of having kids become great NFL quarterbacks or Tom Arnold and Roseanne Barr.

Re: Elephant in the Room"- It's called "Lion Tamer Syndrome.

I have "exotic" animals too- ferrets.
They are ILLEGAL in CA, Hawaii, and some cities. ALL of which allow pits!

I don't let small kids hold the ferrets, and they can only pet them on the back if I am holding the ferret.

I don't deny ferrets bite, and actually warn people about bite-ey ferrets, and share behavior info with them, so they can avoid ever getting bitten.

The shelter I volunteer at doesn't adopt them out to homes with kids under age 5, which protects both the kid and the animal. This is a pretty common practice.

AND-
When someone tells me "hey, didn't ferrets eat the face off of a baby?" I do NOT deny, excuse, and/or downplay, this horrific incident; it happened and it was truly awful. I would NEVER tell a victim/victims family anything other than "I am so sorry".
I also never deny that they can bite very hard, or even that they stink, poop all over, and are expensive when sick.

All of this for an animal that has only done serious injury (i.e.:maul the face of a baby requiring surgery) a small number of times, and who's bite can be nasty, but sure won't leave you disfigured or without a limb/eye/face/tongue.

Considering that they are the 3rd most popular pet, this is a pretty good safety record, and if you take common sense advice, is a very nice, fun (stinky!) pet to have. They don't even harm wild animals if they get loose, because they are not able to hunt anymore. There is really no reason for them to be illegal now.

BUT, I would support total banning of ferrets if it meant stopping them from being abused. I LOVE them SO much, and will never have other pets. But if making them illegal meant no more/much fewer ferrets in shelters, no more nasty breeding companies that treat these creatures viciously, no more horrible living conditions in pet shops and shelters, I would be all for it.

Pit nutters do not care for anyone or anything. They cannot see past their own desires. They do not even love the breed, because if they did, they would see BSL as a way to protect them!

Is that mom defending pits?

Some nutters were saying Merritt was fired from Animal People for making up stats. Where did this come from?

Anonymous said...

So, this is dead kid's mom basically saying that we treat killer pits unfairly because (all) murderers aren't executed, most get prison time?

huh.

The official story is that Animal People went TU due to mismanagement while Merritt was out of the country. Can't find a link to the story, though. Can anyone else?

that's news to me. where it come from? my guess would be the nanny dog factory.

i haven't heard that one either.

Anon 12:47 my daughter has rescued four ferrets from craigslist. My six year old loves them, but he is not unsupervised around them anymore than he is our rats or gerbil. They are fun and sweet animals, but were more than I felt I could take on. I'm glad she got them, they have a wonderful and loving home. She did her research before bringing any into their home. You are so right about bad situations for them. I'd support a ban on snakes as a rat lover, after all, it would cut down on breeding them, and having them end up in bad homes or just used as food. I care about people and animals, and we are the ones who are responsible for the animal problems, we all need to step up to solve them. Living in a BSL free town is not a good feeling, there are places I walk by where you just know the dogs would kill you if they got out. My machete is my friend, it might be close range, but it's sharp, and I will use it if I have to.

yes, eugene mom. that nutter is the mother of the recent fatality and she is rabidly defending pit bulls. notice the date is 8 months ago. i wonder if her tune will change after the funeral.

Anonymous said...

It sounds Nathan Winograd connected, the way they operate. Winograd's stooges operate that way.

Stephanie's last name is misspelled in the search terms for this post. I'm not being a nitpicker but just want people to find it. This is all disgusting. She should be suing these idiots for lying to her and misleading her about pit bulls and getting the child killed.

Anonymous said...

The exotic animal breeding industry is involved with the pit bull industry and the dog breeder industry. They all lobby together. Christie Keith, who is an AKC lobbyist and dog breeder who writes for the San Francisco Chronicle with a pretense of a pet care column and pushes Nathan Winograd, also works for exotic animal and reptile breeding lobbyists and companies. This is just one example of how they work together for the same goal- protecting their $$$$. They are all involved together with regard to the $$$.

scurrilous amateur blogger said...

thank you for pointing out the spelling error.

Anonymous said...

Merritt leaving animal people had zero to do with dogs/pits or stats.

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:04, any more exotics we get will be rescues or from a reputable breeder. I highly doubt rescuing exotics is as dangerous as pit nutter rescues. The biggest danger is rat bite fever and not only do we wash every time we handle them, I know the symptoms.

If the Mother continues to defend these dogs after her son was killed, she wasn't much of a mother to begin with. It's so sad a little innocent boy paid the ultimate price for stupidity.

I'm the anon that didn't understand. Now I get it! Very disturbing.

Mom in Eugene said...

I didn't get it either. I wonder how she is feeling right now, and if she is still rabid about pits or not. Not everyone changes their tune, many double down on their ignorance.

I saw a nutter defaming Merritt, and his stats, in a comment section on a recent article. I wish I remembered which one now, it was about 2 days ago. He put a link to some nutter blog that was supposed to be proof that Merritt made the stats up, but I didn't read it. Everything they say is a lie, so why bother? They cannot refute his facts, so they make up lies instead. What a shock!

I loathe Nathan Winograd, he has done more to promote animal cruelty than any circus or evil breeder out there. HIs "slow kill" mess has caused countless animal victims, millions I am sure.

I looked at the Merritt Clifton ambush, and comments on the youtube site. Lisa Camuso is at it again, under Liger Woods. Debating us BSL cowards, and changing legislation. Insert eye roll here.

I only got 3 minutes into the "debate" because I can't handle it when people interrupt, and don't allow the person to answer a question, before they bombard with another insult/question that has nothing to do with the first.

With 3 human deaths within days of each other, how can pit bull apologists question statistics? It's as if we're talking about imaginary situations.

I'm really starting to believe that liking pit bulls, is a sign of mental illness.

scurrilous amateur blogger said...

i asked camuso what qualified her to claim expert status. her response was to attack my "expert" status. when i informed her that i didn't consider myself an expert and asked her to produce links or better yet screenshots of me claiming to be an expert, she of course went off the rails. but then again, she is barely on the rails to begin with.

"I only got 3 minutes into the "debate"...."

i made it one full minute, then pulled the slider over before pulling the slider again... fuck. i can't stand it when one than one person insists on talking. but that's what you get with "illogical disrespectful shrill childish narcissistic idiots". thank you again branwyne :-)

"I'm really starting to believe that liking pit bulls, is a sign of mental illness. "

welcome to club hater.

Why is the name Lisa Camuso familiar? Is this a Winograd gang member or am I thinking of the Maria Venturo or Ventura or whatever that one was named. Is Lisa Camuso involved with Josh Liddy?

Anonymous said...

Got it now. Lisa Marie Camuso is adopted by the AKC breeders in Massachusetts, Massachusetts Federation of Dog Clubs. It's mostly old ladies except they let a couple of Patti Strand's friends take over the lobbying. HOLLY STUMP the Ipswich Mass pit bull breeder who also works for NAIA, and Charlotte McGowan who is Patti Strand's best bud. Patti Strand runs NAIA and is also an AKC board member, the one who runs their puppy mill division. If you search for Patti Strand sourcewatch you can find out about her and NAIA, which has been involved with pit bull breeder lobbies for a long time. It looks like Holly Stump (who now goes by a new name I think) is taking over the lobbying agenda and bringing in fresh meat, like Lisa. They are ALL involved with Nathan Winograd too. So if they are attacking Merritt Clifton, this is AKC, and the NAIA gang, in team with Winograd's people. All tracking back to Rick Berman.

Anonymous said...

Word is that Amy Marder DVM over at ARL Boston Mass who also works for Jane Berkey is in this gang or has links to them. That is what got passed to me. Amy does have past AKC involvement. So is Berkey working through the local NAIA/AKC gang and using them to go after Merritt?

Merritt Clifton's research and data analysis concerning DBRF and pit bulls is as sound and careful as anything I've ever seen. It is excellent work, and I would say that even if the findings did not support my personal prejudices or experiences.

I'm certainly not an expert on Mr. Clifton, but everything I've read about him in his professional capacity suggests that he walks the walk. I respect that, and him.

Alexandra said...

According to the nutters, Merritt is Colleen. Wait, maybe they said Colleen was Merritt. Oh, now I remember -- they said we're all Colleen. Then they said we're all Craven.

How can Merritt make up statistics if he doesn't even exist? Are they sure now that he does really exist? As the nutters say: "Show me your sources! Peer-reviewed ones!"

I won't believe that Merrit Clifton exists (or Colleen or Craven or me or any of us) until that fact is verified in a peer-reviewed journal, preferably the JAVMA, verified by the CDC.

Hahaha...
