New Yorkers, PLEASE READ:

THIS PIT BULL KILLED OUR DOG.

Last Wednesday, on her evening walk around the block with Daniel Correa, our five-year old dog Zelda was fatally attacked by a pit bull whose owners lost their grip on her leash (at Frederick Douglass Blvd & 124th St). The owners refused to share their names or contact information.

We are heartbroken, and filled with grief and regret that we couldn't protect our baby. When we're calmer and stronger, we'll share photos and remembrances of our girl. (Daniel is physically unharmed, though he had to fight the dog off of Zelda).

RIGHT NOW, we want all New Yorkers to know that there is NO protocol for reporting animal-to-animal bites. We filed a report with NYPD but they will not pursue the case. They and NYC 311, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, ASPCA, and Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) all expressed sympathy but said they have no way to record this event. In other words, no one can do anything to prevent this dog - or other dangerous animals - from hurting someone else.

We have a lead on where (Marcus Garvey Dog Run) we might find the dog (named "Blue") and its owners (a female and a male, picture here), about whom we've heard several reports of previous irresponsible behavior related to their dog, which appears to be unlicensed. If we can ID them, we can pursue a civil case to get a judge to require the dog removed, euthanized, or at least required to wear a muzzle.

We have no desire to punish the owners, who seem vulnerable, and don't blame the dog, which we suspect has endured or is currently enduring abuse or neglect. We just want to prevent anyone else from enduring the trauma and pain that Zelda experienced - and that we continue to feel.

I have contacted the offices of Mayor De Blasio, @ Gale A. Brewer, Manhattan Borough President and Bill Perkins, our New York City Council rep. I am reaching out to the local media today, hoping they will raise awareness of the threat to public safety that exists since no one acts when a pet is harmed by another pet.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

- Contact us if you can help us find or ID this couple and/or their dog.

- If you see them on the street, please call 911.

- Support us in demanding that a system be created in this city to record animal-to-animal attacks by contacting any of the officials mentioned above. If any of the people who encountered this couple losing control of their dog in the past had had a way to file a report, perhaps this dangerous dog would have been removed from the streets before she hurt Zelda. The least we can do is to remove her before she hurts someone else.

- ABOVE ALL, when you are out on the streets, especially with small dogs and children, please be aware that any of the dogs you encounter could have a history of attacking other animals. However vigilant you think you are being, please be more so.

how i wish we could sterilize the entire family. two generations of psychopaths & imbeciles (that we know of) is enough.

this punk ought to be sitting in jail until the dog is presented to the authorities. but my fingers are crossed that she will maul one of the friends who is aiding and abetting this criminal riffraff.

everett, washington chomping spree a pit bull and a boxer got loose and went on a "chomping spree" biting 5 people, including a police officer and killing a cat before it was all over. the boxer is under quarantine and the mutant was killed with the taser (LOL). why is it when these pack attacks are interracial, it is always the gripper that is killed and the non gripper taken into custody? another reasonable question, since everett classifies ALL pit bulls as POTENTIALLY dangerous, why wasn't this pit's threat level increased to DANGEROUS after it bit a kid and then menaced a woman and her baby?

DONNA has 6 dogs now and plans to add more in the future. her neighbors are just thrilled. i am a firm believer in one strike, you're out. i think these nutters are entitled to one 911 response. after that, they are on their own.

battle creek, michigan this 27 yr old pit bull owner was arrested after he sicced his mutant on Zachary Baldwin. Baldwin's crime was serving HENDERSON with an eviction notice.

be sure to keep up with the great unwashed at four legged friends and enemies and dogsbite decatur. i don't think i can do this anymore. the human race is really bringing me down. i am afraid the only solution is starting to look like a serious culling of both human and canine mutants.



sundre, alberta 57 yr old RITA PHILLIP sicced her two mutants on 26 yr old Deanna Wolfe. Wolfe suffered life threatening injuries. PHILLIP fled following the attack. she was picked up at a casino, then she missed her first court appearance. on the 29th, the judge denied her bail.

search warrants were hand delivered to michael vick's estate again. this time the charges are not organized dog fighting, although there are reports of impromptu dog fighting aka yard accidents. but that is to be expected with pit bulls.

there are allegations of animal cruelty of rescued dogs. current and past employees and volunteers claim that mace and tasers were used on the dogs. they also claim the dogs were kept 19+ hours in their crates. employees state that dog fights broke out and the dogs did not receive veterinary care. that's the problem with keeping dogs that were BRED TO KILL EACH OTHER. there really is NO safe way to house or control them.

one dog, a pit bull named JADA was seized along with her vet records.

Stormy Night for a Grey Gripper

      So, late this afternoon, I'm walking home from my local subway station, when what do I see tied to a city street sign, in the cold, drizzling rain, but a big grey female gripper!

     First 3 pictures taken approx. 5:30 PM on 1st Ave. at height of afternoon pedestrian traffic.  Sidewalks are crowded; there is a bike lane behind the pit bull, and busy traffic behind that.  Click any photo to enlarge:

        She was tied up with a fabric leash tied in a clumsy overhead knot.  She was there when I went into a corner bodega, and there when I came out 15 minutes later.

        I walked to my apartment, took a shower, changed my clothes, and went back down to the store.  The grey pit bull was still there.  At least 45 minutes had elapsed since I took the first photos of her.  As you can see in this final photo, it is darker and wetter outside.

        The dog is miserable and shivering and standing in the BIKE LANE (and even in the rain, there are plenty of people--many of them impoverished immigrant food deliverers without health insurance--riding in the bike lanes here.  Lots of regular commuters, too.). 

         I felt badly for her, but I just won't approach pit bulls anymore.  I just won't.  I think I saw tags on the cloth collar (there were two collars--a cloth and a prong), but I'm not going to touch her in order to find out.  I hollered in the bodega to ask if anyone left their dog outside.  No luck.

      Unless the dog owner or their kids is in an ambulance somewhere, it is completely unacceptable to leave their dog on the street for that long.  ANY dog.  The gripper is an accident waiting to happen.  

     I'm getting dressed to go out this evening.  If the dog is still there when I leave again, I'm going to call Animal Control.
