H 5671, intrinsically dangerous, infinitely stupid

UPDATE

Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien and City Council President David Moran have written to the governor expressing their displeasure with H5671 and asked him to veto it.

"We certainly respect and appreciate the love of pit bulls and all dogs by the supporters of the bill. However, as public officials, we must do what is necessary to protect the health and welfare of the two- and four-legged residents of our city."

if you live in rhode island, let the governor know that you would like him to veto the bill.

“Years ago it was German Shepherds that were ‘bad’ dogs. Then it was Dobermans, then Rottweilers and today it is Pit Bulls. No specific breed of dog is intrinsically bad or vicious or dangerous.” PALANGIO

State Rep THOMAS PALANGIO, a democrat and lead sponsor of the bill that reversed the state's ability to regulate pit bulldogs, despite the objections of animal control officers.

i've never seen a politician so uncomfortable in his own skin. a person can get spoiled watching reptiles like DICK CHENEY and BILL CLINTON. it's easy to forget that some of these guys are not actually from mars. the very nervous PALANGIO seemed to do okay answering the questions but the split second he completed his answer he began a strange cycle of panic that repeated throughout the short interview. he seemed to exhale a huge sigh of relief, while thinking "okay, tom, you got through that one, maybe they haven't caught on yet that you are a complete idiot." then the reporter would start in with the next question and PALANGIO would inhale deeply and the look on his face seemed to be telling the viewer, "oh god, here comes another one. this time they're going to see that i am complete idiot. i don't know how much longer i can continue this charade."

i love this interview with PALANGIO. he described why he returned to politics after leaving politics to become a full time lobbyist. he is concerned about his community losing some of its luster citing the foreclosure and abandoned housing problem. PALANGIO'S answer to breathing life back into his dying community: PIT BULLS! and who can blame him? blood is lustrous, but only when wet, not so much when dry. personally, i'd rather the house next to me was abandoned than continue to endure the mutants and the pit scum that currently occupy it.

i was so fixated on mr. brylcreem and his nervous facial twitchings, i had a tough time following the interview, i had to watch it twice. i kept wondering about what qualified him for this job, what he did before becoming a professional sleazeball. slippery investment banker? bottom feeding lawyer? greasy mafia peon? my imagination ran wild but it was nothing compared to reality - used car salesman. LOL! i thought, that can't be true. yup, it's true. in fact, he was a used car salesman in trouble with the tax man. the PERFECT imbecile to carry the nutter torch.

only me and 39 others have seen this interview and there is only one comment. it's a doozy.
Isn't this the guy who was a lobbyist for Ciccilline? Man... this guy is the poster child for RI hacks... ask John Lombardi... he criticized this guy REPEATEDLY for being a no-show even while lobbying.. no one could ever find the guy! I wonder where he golfs? Need a good laugh? This dude is actually a "USED CAR DEALER"... no joke! LOL

back to the serious issue of intrinsically dangerous dogs. YES, Rep PALANGIO, some dogs ARE intrinsically dangerous. pit bulldogs are unique in the mayhem they create; jumping out of 2nd story windows, breaking into homes, jumping into cars, ONE dog mauling multiple victims. in london last year, ONE pit bull put FIVE cops in the hospital. more recently and much closer to your home, ONE pit bull again put FIVE people in the hospital. should have listened to those animal control officers.

Rep. Palangio looks like the kind of guy that needs to be "incentivized" to action. Wonder what he got and who paid him? And will he mind that lustrous blood on his hands?

"Finocchio said that before Pawtucket banned pit bulls in 2004 RISPCA regularly convened vicious dog hearings for pit bulls corralled in Pawtucket...
On average, says Finocchio, RISPCA convenes about 65 vicious dog hearings a year. “A majority involve pit bulls,” says Finocchio, but they’re not dogs coming out of Pawtucket any longer.
“Since the city passed that law we have not had a vicious dog hearing come out of Pawtucket,” he said.
Holmes says the local law essentially banned the introduction of new pit bulls into the city after 2004."

Yep, "incentivized" Those pin stripes don't grow on trees!

Hopefully someone with maulers moved in next door to him and a neighborly 'yard accident' ensues. This seems to be the only way our 'officials' learn anything. That or buy them off. Never listen to experts or your constituents when a greenback or special interest group shows up.

I'm trying to get a handle on this guy... a used car salesman with facial twitches that would severely inhibit his ability to close a deal. Would you buy a used car from this guy? Time for a career change!

He gets himself elected to the state legislature where he learns the ins and outs of lobbyists. This looks like a great gig for a former used car salesman, money, behind the scene deals, peddling influence, perfect job!

He leaves the legislature for a full time opportunity as a professional lobbyist. After this experience at buying votes our boy realizes that there is a bucket of money in a return to the legislature.

The residents of this district must be fools...

Don't know which rock you turned over to find this uniquely revolting political creature, Dawn, but thanks for shining a light on him.

The "legislature/lobbyist revolving door" definitely goes round and round...but I doubt this sleaze could hack it in lobbying. Lobbying is like PR, but the people usually have better education. This guy couldn't smoothtalk his way out of a wet paper bag.

And w/Lucy, I noticed that obnoxious pinstripe suit and the hairdo and necktie. Sopranos extra, all the way. He should move to New Jersey. Trenton is full of these D-bags.

it is a astonishing to me that this guy could succeed in any field, which is probably why this fuck up went back into politics.

the views are up to 47. maybe i should start a change.org petition to raise the viewership. palangio will be looking for a rock to hide under if this went viral. obtw LEDY, i have a copy and will upload if needed. in fact, i could make gifs of his between questions repeating panic cycles. lol.

This man is an excellent example of crazy face.

I so glad you put this sell-out fighting dog lobbyist on your page. I wonder who can look at the attacks happening day after day and think, "We need to ban BSL!"

I mean, WTF? The dog fighters have deeper pockets and are more tantalizing than a few, several, many dead kids.
Chihuahuas are way more deadly.

i am so frickin tired of hearing this b.s. ....dont these morons have any original thoughts on anything ? i lived through the seventies and eighties and i dont remember this , were ppl being slaughered by shepards and dobies ?

Freaky. Politician/used car salesman... I think politicians are worse. At least with a car salesman you may buy a car that doesn't run well, that does suck, but you bought it. With a pol, you get worlds of shit and you may not have even voted for the pos. A politician fits him to a tee.

Quoting Merritt Clifton:

From 1930 to 1960 the U.S. averaged fewer than one fatal dog attack per year. Pit bulls during that time killed nine people. Dobermans killed two, one in 1955 and one in 1960, and that was enough to create the lasting image of the Doberman as a dangerous breed.

Since 2010 we have averaged 23 fatalities per year from pit bulls alone. From 1960 to 1985, the U.S. averaged about 600,000 bites per year requiring medical treatment, with a dog population of about 35 million. From 2000 to today, with a dog population of about 70 million, the average number of dog bites per year requiring medical attention has been between 4.7 and 4.8 million. What changed? In 1960 pit bulls were about half of one percent of the U.S. dog population. By 2000 they were about 4%, and now they are 6%.

crazy face. i have to remember that one.

i think the rescue angels have much more disposable income.

sputnick, thanks for those old statistics. it certainly puts things in perspective.

scurrilous amateur blogger said...

snarky, during 1980's, "the decade of the doberman" pit bulls and their mixes killed 45 people, dobermans killed 8. these numbers are from karen delise's rag "Fatal Attacks", so the numbers could be even worse for pibble. she has an awful lot of dogs listed as mixed breed or unknown.

He's a low rent whore who was cheap to buy. The lobbies that buy people like this want them stupid and corrupt because they are much easier to control that way. It's not the rescue angels buying guys like this. It's the breeders and the dog fighters. That's where the money is, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some agriculture money in there too via Rick Berman. Berman's life is buying off guys like this.

Danya, could you provide a direct link to the Clifton article this info came from? I know many animal advocates who need to read it.

Even Ebay and Facebook are in the dog fighting game these days. Maybe they gave him some money. Zuckerberg might have a special lobbying fund for game dog breeders, who knows? You think Zuckerberg or Ebay contribute any of the money he makes from these people to the victims? The following guy has been selling vicious game bred dogs on both those websites for at least the past 5 years. He specializes in the extra violent ones. The ones that try to kill each other as puppies. THIS is the kind of person this used car dealer Palangio is working for too (as well as the AKC/UKC breeders, and girls and housewife rescue angels with Best Friends and the rest). Dirty illegal money that was never reported and no taxes paid, but people like this shove money at people like Palangio. http://columbia.ebayclassifieds.com/dogs-puppies/west-columbia/pitbull-puppies/?ad=28564238

"sire is red boy jocko old family red yellow John dam is Jeep niggerrina no dog fighters these Dogs we're breed for game long wind hard mouths these are your idea hog hunting weight pulling or guard choice is yours four males seven females these dogs are awesome and a must see they vary in colors some white Buck skin tiger stripes with rednoses one all white with rednose these dogs are so game that sooner or later they will have to be seperated contact Christal or knowledge due to the economy. Im willing to drop the price yes my dogs are wormed and have their shots I've been breeding dogs for 7 years strong and will stand by any dog I sell to see the history of my past Dogs check me out on Facebook willie Scott serious dogman and dogwoman"

As you can see that guy is in Missouri, where the puppy mill breeders are right in there with the game dog breeders protecting the business. The puppy mill breeders are legislators. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jason-Smith-Puppy-Mill-Peddler-for-Congress/135329386657282 Nathan Winograd's breeder friends were also right in there with this Jason Smith opposing puppy mill regulations. Don't want to disrupt those game dogmen! The average American has no idea all this is going on but they see the results in the blood and mayhem in their yards and streets.

At this point the fighting dog breeders are probably state legislators!

that guy sure looks slimy , even for a politician . maybe hes just not very photogenic and figures only pit people would like him .

Um...before I go...why are pit bull people so concerned with the color of their dog's nose? Red-nose pit, blue-nose pit, it sounds like the ghastly illustrations to an STD manual. Anybody......?

SadFalada please keep commenting. I'm laughing my ass off.
I have no idea why the nose color obsession either.

Palangio is working for the dog fighters. That's who he represents with this, making it easier to run the sdog fighting operations. Did they promise him a cut?

orangedog said...

They probably gave him the pick of the litter - like TS. ;)
This guy has too many tells to be undercover. Just imagine...
"Oh dammit, they're on to me. Quick make a different face. Ok ok that isn't working... try a different one. No not that one you idiot!"

Small Survivors said...

LOL SF - Palangio looks exactly like cesar romano as the joker - down to the pin stripe suit!

Anonymous said...

Looks like even with all your pleading you still lost.

Seems like, as usual, the majority of folks with common sense disagreed with you...

orangedog said...

I missed where the public got an opportunity to vote on this law... Oh, that's because they didn't. Anytime BSL measures are voted on - instead of buying out a slimy politician to ramrod it through - the "folks with common sense" vote against pit bulls. Go check out the latest Miami vote if you want to see what people think of shitbulls.
But keep on supporting dog fighting and millions of euthanized pit bulls - and all the animals they kill. You're all doing such a great job regulating yourselves. Thumbs up!

Why do you want to own a creature that kills its own kind and is so disloyal that it sends its owners to the hospital on average every 4 days?

orangedog said...

This loyal pit bull protected his owner from a child giving her a death hug. When the owner intervened, the people pleasin' loyalist doggie in the world, turned on his owner and sent her to the hospital along with the child.

Note the nutter in the comments saying how loyal pits are. She either has a massive reading comprehension problem or didn't read the whole story.

Now that is one scary dude! Or pathetic. Or both! Absolutely agree with everyone -- if that "man" is involved, it can't be good! Nefarious. That is the word I'm looking for.

Snark, I was around in the 70's, too. Yeah, maybe dobes were the badass dog to get, but they were guard dogs, not equal opportunity killing machines. When I throw the stats in the faces of the nutters that spew that crap, proof that dobes have never been on par with pits, they do what nutters do best -- spew, "Hater! Racist!"

So tired. So tired. But can't give up!

SadFalada, I am pretty sure that the whole nose obsession is because blue and red nosed dogs have a history of winning more fights. I know I red that somewhere, in an expose that included documentation from actual breeders and fighters of pit bulls, where the nose color was paramount when describing the phyical characteristics of the beasts. Maybe that expose was here even? Or DogsBite.

Thanks much, Opalina! Dawn gave me an excellent explanation, much the same, earlier.
Coincidentally, I have a 19 year old "seashell pastel" tortie kitty named---Opalina!

tropical storms said...

Opalina, red nosed bulldogs I'd simply a color description like red and white, brindled etcetera. The trait was at one time mostly found within the older pure families although it can occur as a trait in any bloodlines encompassing the old lines. It really means nothing. Blue nosed dogs on the other hand were produced by crossing bulldogs with Italian mastiffs who's normal coat color is a smoke blue as is the skin including nose and ear leathers. No one in the fighting fancy would have one, they were created for looks alone as a bigger and more "impressive " dog. There was never a fighting line of blue coated bulldog. Check out the "Razor" line dogs online then look at say Bert Sorrel's dogs. You'll see the difference immediately.

Opalina said...

SadFalada, would she be named after "The Ghost of Opalina" perchance? :)

One thing I do know is that, to me, no matter the nose color, pits are freaking ugly!!!

SadFalada said...

Regretfully, no, much more predictable, my young niece named her after, in her words, "A fairy jewel"
Also, the most brilliant description of pit bulls comes from Dawn's friend --"a dump truck"! a perfect melding of almost literal description plus hilarious metaphor as to both their use and their associations!

Opalina said...

"The Ghost of Opalina" is a book about the ghost of a cat that entertains the new family children that have moved into the house she haunts, with tales of the previous families' antics. Great book!

Tropical, I managed to get google result for a Diane Jessup page, where she talks about Bert Sorrels and her dog Dirk. OMG. That's all I gotta say! I'm sure this is not new to you veterans, but it had my jaw hanging, but at least she admits they are first and foremost fighting dogs.

http://www.workingpitbull.com/Sorrells.html

Plus, I noticed how many pit bull forums he is on. Man, I bet that would be some good reading!

tropical storms said...

Opalina, he's a fascinating guy who's been around forever. You should be able to access interviews with him and articles by him through Google. Ralph Greenwood and Randy Fox might be interesting reads for you as well.

scurrilous amateur blogger said...

also google joannie winchester tatonka kennels. she is bert's ex wife and many dogmen consider her to have surpassed bert sorrels as a breeder of quality "bulldogs".

i do LOVE the way jessup always calls them BULLDOGS.
and i get a kick out the names that she chooses: DREAD, GRIP, FREAKSHOW and DIRK. a dirk is a weapon.

i accidentally deleted my own explanation a couple of days ago instead of the comment above it that someone had deleted.
