2013 is proving to be a banner year for pibble. seventeen people killed by dogs, 16 of them by some kind of ugly gripping mutant and one GSD. yep. if it ain't pit, it ain't shit.
BADRAP grew a pair and declared the "nanny dog" to be an innocent myth.
Farmers Insurance ended coverage of pit bulls, as well as rotts and wolf hybrids. expect more to follow suit.
long time defender of gripping dogs, ED BOKS admitted that pit bulldogs are disproportionately problematic and their numbers need to be controlled.
Dog Bite Attorney Kenneth Phillips, who is typically moderate on the subject of breed, has introduced the possibility of a Pit Bull Recall.
nutters no longer dominate the online comments. normal people are organizing and coming out in force to add their voice to the growing resistance of grippers in our communities and for good reason - more and more people are clashing with nutters and their purpose bred dogs. it's not a pretty sight.
about once a month, someone takes the time to share their personal story with me. i received this one yesterday.
I thought I would take a little break from pit bulls today.
First I went to the vets to pick up my black cat "lucky" who wasn't feeling so lucky after being neutered. In the waiting room, lashing out at every other dog was a snarling pit. The parasitic owner could barely manage a grasp on it's harness, and you could tell that he wanted to punch it. They were walking down the sidewalk afterwards, as I drove by. It took everything I had not to yell my trademark "get a real dog, pussy!"...my little angels were all with me at the time.
I decided to surprise the kids with a trip to the beach. I had the swim gear in the trunk so when we arrived we all took turns getting dressed in the back seat of the car. Finally, tubes inflated and life jackets fastened..we waddled toward the beach. Almost simultaneously, a young couple with an unleashed pair of maulers sprang from a nearby car and stormed the beach like Normandy. The entire time the dogs were either charging at children or attempting to fight each other. At one point, the owner decided it was appropriate to punch one of the dogs and throw it in the water. I watched from a somewhat safe distance, staring at both of the owners like I wanted to kill them. The idiots didn't decide to leave until we started walking towards our car. Which of course, put my children right in their path for the second time.
Time to dry up and stop at wal mart on the way home. At least they are still pit bull free...that is, aside from the unattended mutant in a minivan. The windows were rolled completely down, as the dog anxiously jumped from seat to seat. A middle-aged, pig-skank lady of an owner eventually returned to the van with 2 cases of mountain dew, and six bottles of bleach. Goodie.
Let's go home and unload our groceries....oh, I almost forgot that I will be greeted by the guttural cackles of vicious fucking dogs in my own backyard. The world has gone pit bull crazy.
and nutters wonder why we hate them and their dogs. people should not have to live like this.
I'm so thankful to hear other regular people speak up. The world has truly gone pit bull crazy. We need to take our world back and make it safer!
No shit there. I'm afraid to walk down my own street I've been on the receiving end of UN-leashed dog attacks so many times, by so many breeds. But none were as determined, aggressive, unrelenting, or unhesitating as the pit bull. I don't leave my house without my phone, mace, and a knife anymore. And that's because of the DOGS, not the people. And I live Colorado for criminy sake. I can't imagine living in pit crazed Ohio. Check out the video on this site and tell me animals like this are pets, not biological weapons. Who the hell is qualified to own a 180 pound dog with an inbred hate for people? Same thing for a pit bull. http://thedogsnobs.com/2013/06/15/owner-profile-in-over-their-head-ignoramus/
I like to think of the pit advocacy movement as being in the same position now as the tobacco lobby was around 1970. The HUGE lie they told-that smoking was good for you-was starting to be revealed and come unraveled. We KNOW that every carefully constructed talking point of the pit lobby is a complete fabrication (nanny dogs), a half truth (ATTS test) or a twisted truth (Chihuahuas bite more). The nanny dogs myth has been struck down. The others will follow until they have no credibility (which in reality the pit lobby never did), their lies crumble around them, and BSL becomes the law of the land-fighting breed dogs are unfit as pet animals and should never have been allowed as pets.
yup...why do they wonder why we hate them and their dogs?? They really shouldn't...they deserve all the hate we can muster...and I'm perfectly content saying I hate them and hate what their dogs do...
if they love their pitties and we hate them , i guess that makes short work of the phrase "love is all there is ". there is definitely too much love and not enough hate in this pittie filled world. yep , there sure seems to be a mutant invasion taking over on this continent,at least . quess its a case of spay/nueter programs working too well for normal dogs and the reverse for mutants . and of course the rescue orgs pumping pits out like theyve gone outa style , which they will eventually , i hope . there just cant be that many stupid people out there .
Don't forget that big time Nutter Ed Bok's finally admitted "30 years of Pit Bull Education has been a huge failure"
the best way to get educated on shitbulls is to listen to nutters and realize how everything they say is either untrue or only half true . when youve heard pretty much everything they say on shitbulls , then youve been "educated".
I have noticed that too with comments on news sites, etc. Where once you only saw a mishmash of "nanny dog," and "blame the owner," there are more comments from the other side. I think this might be the first step in the direction of mass rejection of nutter talking points.
thank you vintage, i had forgotten. i will correct the oversight.
I have to chime in with anonymous above. I do not leave the house anymore with out my pepper spray, a nice locking pocket knife and my phone. Because of the pits and their owners, not the people... I have a neighbor who just turned 70 and she has a pit mix, looks like it's mostly pit. I used to be friends with her but I cut her off after she started insisting that she'd had her dog DNA tested and there's zero pit in it. She also admitted to me that though she keeps her dog on the leash about 95% of the time out of respect for me and my children, she does occasionally let it off. It has snarled and lunged at my dog a couple of times when it was ON the leash. So she obviously does not give a crap about my wishes, my children or anyone else.
old people with pit bulls. the WORST case scenario.
It will probably eat the old lady. Pits and the elderly have a poor track record.
This is a wonderful post! It does seem that the general public is tipping to the problem and that I think will begin to carry weight at a political level. I've also noticed on the bulldog boards a growing number of "pet bull" owners changing their tune with one another. In their own company they're now saying bulldogs are not for everyone and not all bulldogs should be "saved". The dogfighters of course hate the publicity brought on by daily coverage of maulings. What once played to their advantage is now seen as a potential death nell to their breed. (The chats have been rather fun for me.) Sad as it is every death by bulldog and major mauling event is one step closer to serious limitations and restrictions on these dogs. The insurance companies I think will be the next nail in the coffin. Thanks for a good news thread Dawn, I hope the opportunity for more good news presents itself soon.
i hope the politicians mimic germany's approach. i think that is a decent compromise.
i am so glad i don't have kids to worry about. it's hard enough trying to protect my dog from grippers.
tropical storms, i envy you. i haven't had time to be on the pit bulldog forums lately.
Dawn, I consider it a moral obligation to keep things lively in their chat rooms. Hope all is well with you.
nutters call us ignorant or closed-minded if we dont like what shitbulls do and want something done about the problem . rather than listen to us and find some compromise they just want it all their way . theyve shown to me that they dont deserve anything but out and out bans and heavy restrictions . these are not people to be trusted with the big responsibility of public safety. these are people that mostly evade responsibility and accountability. when you think about it , and accept that whats in the news is really not a huge media hoax , you'd have to be a nutter to take the chance of owning a shit bull. whereas all dog might bite , even the sweetest pitbull is a dog designed to do maximum damage , and of course this is borne out by the facts and statistics , however skewed they may be . there really is no two ways about it , pitbulls are bad news.
how can "nanny dog" be a harmless myth? people believing that pitbulls are protectors rather that maulers of children , cannot be a harmless misunderstanding , obviously . bad rap still needs to grow a pair .
baby steps snarky.
excellent comment by merritt clifton at the ed boks link:
Article comment by: Merritt Clifton
The current U.S. pit bull population is about three million, and it has been about three million for about 10 years now. About one million pit bulls per year enter animal shelters, about two-thirds surrendered by their keepers, most of the rest impounded for dangerous behavior. Most of these dogs have already been through three homes -- their birth home, the home that bought them, and a subsequent pass-along home, before they arrive at shelters. An average of just over 900,000 pit bulls per year over the past 10 years have been killed in shelters after flunking behavioral screening, with a peak of 967,000, a low of 835,000, and 888,000 killed last year. This is about 60% of all the dogs killed in U.S. shelters today, up from about 50% in 2003. The average age of pit bulls killed in animal shelters is about 18 months. So what we have at any given time is a third of the pit bull population having not yet reached maturity, a third (at most) in homes they will still occupy at the end of the year, and a third flunking out of homes and being killed -- which translates into a 50% failure rate among adult dogs in homes each & every year. Nothing even remotely like this has ever been seen with any other dog breed. Among all other dog breeds combined, only about 5% enter shelters each year.
re merritt clifton comment :
yes but at least 50% of pit-bull owners are fuck-ups too .
re justice mule
thats just great to hear of a mini mule kicking a pit ass like that...no pun intended
and the fucking thing still came back for more
poor mule is traumatized though she probably will be looking out for pit kicking fun later on , i hope she gets it ..
big justice boner here.
Dawn, this is most excellent. and FWIW, I for one would pay top dollar to go to a yearly black tie event to experience a multimedia presentation of this type of information.
This is an excellent description of how pitbulls are destroying the enjoyment of every day out door activities and even peaceful enjoyment of one's own yard. I have experienced the loose pitbull with windows down at Subway and was flaberghasted by two pitbulls left with windows down at a Menard's Hardware store. Both times luckily I saw the animals and did not go in. I keep thinking of how smart Ontario Canada was as I am sure tourism is up.. as people from the states look for a safer more tranquil vacation that they can't find anymore in the USA.
yes , but i dont want to move to ontario . i like it here except for all the shitbulls and their screwy owners . why cant we have bans too , its just not fair !!! whats wrong with our decision makers , kissing ass to freaky dingbats and criminal thugs and deadbeats . bet one good bite would change their attitudes .
a million pitbulls euthanized every year in the states because of aggression and other issues and yet people dont accept that this breed is a problem and a misfit with the people who think they want to own a pitbull. big spay and neuter programs for dogs and cats and yet many humane societys are promoting pitbulls as suitable pets , when they should be promoting normal pets not the unsuitable ones .
And yet, concerning BSL and how it HELPS pit bulls: The net result is that Denver is among the few major U.S. cities which have had no fatal dog attacks in the past 20 years, while killing fewer impounded dogs of all breeds per 1,000 residents than any other major city between the coasts, and killing less than half as many pit bulls per thousand human residents (.14) as Miami/Dade County, the animal control jurisdiction killing the next fewest pit bulls (.33). Miami/Dade also has breed-specific legislation prohibiting possession of pit bulls...the SF/DACC persuaded the San Francisco City Council to pass an ordinance requiring all pit bulls to be sterilized. Pit bull shelter killing in San Francisco fell to 300 in the first year after the ordinance passed. Within another year San Francisco shelters were killing fewer pit bulls than any cities except Denver and Miami.
Ontario province, Canada, in 2005 adopted a law prohibiting possession of pit bulls, but allowing pit bulls already in Ontario to remain if they were licensed, sterilized, vaccinated, insured, and kept in a safe manner. The Toronto Humane Society howled that this legislation would introduce a pit bull holocaust. In truth, Ontario shelters now kill fewer pit bulls, cumulatively serving a population of 13 million humans, than the shelters in the Detroit metropolitan area, just to the south, which serve a human population of only 1.2 million.
Merely stabilizing shelter intake of pit bulls at the present level would require achieving the 70%-plus sterilization rate that keeps supply-and-demand for other dogs in the U.S. relatively balanced. This would mean nearly tripling the present pit bull sterilization rate of about 25%. Raising the pit bull sterilization rate to 70% would keep the annual shelter killing toll of pit bulls close to 900,000 per year. Reducing the pit bull population to the numbers kept safely in stable homes would require sterilizing 90%...an effective response to pit bull overpopulation must target breeding, and must be legislatively mandated, since pit bull breeders have proved intransigently resistant to any and all forms of gentle persuasion.
I didn't think you'd have to update your stats so soon, Dawn, but a pit has killed another child. This is the 3rd death in SC this year.
I just read of another death, five year old girl this morning. I think it was SC, but that could have been the source of the news report. It was a bulldog that the child was said to have known and interacted with all it's life.
five days since the last fatal attack? blogging about pit bulls is like buying computer software, the stats are obsolete around the time you publish. i kept getting distracted so it took me about a week to complete the gotta getta gund blog post. i had to update the number of deaths TWICE before i published.
its a media hoax , peops are dying from chi's and bassetts all the time , its just not being reported in the news cuz pits are more sensational .
I ROFL when I read "a young couple with an unleashed pair of maulers sprang from a nearby car and stormed the beach like Normandy." That literary marvel created such a realistic visual.
Yes there is a problem with Pit bulls. I've had to break up fights with them and shoo them out of my yard.
Yet calling someone a pussy for owning or working with one yet your afraid to go with 50 feet of another sounds pretty hypocritical.
About the real dog thing,if you get pretty much any large or giant dog they can likely defend themselves well against these dogs.
Even though there's freak occurrences even a dog like a Newfoundland or German Shepherd is safe to walk. Most pits are not game bred anymore sot there less threatening.
